Gotta love the thread title. Bergevin seen talking to longtime defensive mentor Doug Wilson in a press box in Chicago..where he was employed for several years before coming to Montreal and where both started their NHL careers...must mean they are putting the finishing touches on a trade. Fellow GM's, especially former teammates... only talk to each other about possible trades...never discuss the weather, wives, children, old times......trade talk only!

Shoddy journalism = ridiculous speculation.

Over the years I've seen headlines like this dozens of times. Concerning two GMs seen talking in public...don't recall ever trade coming out of it

According to Kevin Kurz on Twitter, Montreal GM Marc Bergevin is in Chicago for the Sharks v Hawks game & was spotted talking to Sharks GM Doug Wilson in the press box.

Discuss.

Edit: Can a mod please change the title to Bergevin in Chicago

It may be something or it may be nothing.

GM's converse a TON during the year, only about .05% of conversations turn into a trade so we can't read too much into it.

There's no doubt that Bergevin and Wilson are friends and are going to have a friendly conversation. Given their respective roles, there's no way they're not at least talking about or hinting towards when they speak. There's no way their conversation was 100% friendly.

When I have dinner or run into friends in the same business as I'm in, it's always the same formula. Friendly talk some catching up and talk about work. Oh things are great, Bork was sent down for this... yadda yadda. Wilson, yeah Big Joe won't accept a trade but he might be cracking etc etc...

Not saying it's going to end up in a trade but it's this friendly relationship that GM's have that make them trade with one another. Like anything else, there's cliques in the NHL and GM's tend to make trades with ones they like and have made deals with in the past. So even if they weren't discussing a trade, I'd be very surprised if they weren't at least feeling each others positions out.

Come on Grant, let the kids have their fun. God knows there's nothing else to do in life but to talk about the Habs.
