Nuge ahead of Smyth and Hemsky is definitely something for him to be proud of.
I would say being so close to McDrai is as well although he's played Calgary a whole lot more games but it seems he gets up for Calgary as a Red Deer lad.

Still really impressed with Glenn Anderson 57goals. He REALLY hated and killed the Flames a lot. I mean look how many more goals he bagged than even Kurri and Mess. Anderson was also a playoff warrior.

People look at Drais goal total being so low, and really his classic cross ice one timer goal gets snuffed pretty good by the Flames, but he MURDERS the Flames with his pin point passing.

Last night Drai found Nurse on a clean jail break. Would have been another spectacular pass killing the Flames. Nurse didn't cash, good save by Markstrom. But its typical of what Drai does to the Flames. Drai's body of work against the Flames, just seems like his passing is more of a weapon against them in the specific match up.

Kind of makes sense too. Flames box in a lot, so they can snuff out some plays, but they aren't stopping Drai passes a whole lot.

He is doing his part in this series and the 2 teams that he always seems to get up for are Calgary and Vancouver.

One of my favorite 'Battle of Alberta' stats:

In the 1983 Edmonton/Calgary series (first playoff BOA), Flames' defenceman Paul Reinhart scored six goals in 5 games. And went minus 14.

(Also, in the 1985-86 season, Wayne Gretzky scored 24 points in 8 games vs .Calgary.)

Wow, Flames fans are angry. Early in the season and they want to blow it up and tank for a high draft choice. These are the same fans who vilified Oilers for allegedly purposely tanking. They have pretty much every player, coaches and management in their sights.

Best part is they don't really have a ton of shoots to pull to reload.

Hanifin and Lindholm would have a lot of value as rentals, but the Flames would probably want to think about making those decisions fairly quickly. Both were reported to be close on extensions (Friedman saying the Hanifin deal was pretty much a lock), but both would get the Flames pretty good value. I could easily see a 1st+ for both players, but that trade return vanishes if both are re-signed to big tickets.

Had they used their heads and decided to rebuild after making the Huberdeau trade, they could have dealt the following players all for at least a 1st, in some cases multiple 1sts or similar value:

- Huberdeau
- Weegar
- Lindholm
- Mangiapne

PLUS they would have had a boat load of cap room to take some bad deals off of other team's hands and accumulated more assets. Instead they might still be able to squeeze two firsts out of what is left over, but that's really it.

The other shitty thing for them is now that they are going to delay this rebuild, how much appetite is there going to be from the fans to buy tickets?

They might get one good year of ticket sales in new barn and then it'll all disappear as the team isn't any good. At least if they were started that rebuild there would be some light at the end of the tunnel and maybe get fans to stick around, but if they are heading downwards have fun

They'd be so much better off trading their assets and going full rebuild.

Few teams have the opportunity of that many and high quality of valuable pending UFAs to be able to trade at the deadline while simultaneously not having a chance to be a contender in the same year.

Its a simple question: realistically, if everything goes right, can they win the Cup with what they have? No, imo. So why hold on to these players? They lock in their players and they end up in the same position that San Jose is in with Couture, Vlasic, Hertl and almost Karlsson.

My impression is that they seem to be in a strange headspace where they are more interested in signing these players for not much other reason than to say "see look players DO want to stay here!" They've already thrown away the chance to deal Backlund for what would have probably been a fairly decent return for no reason other than it made them feel happy that they feel wanted again.

Further entrenching a 30 year old core of Lindholm, Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar, and Hanifin is setting yourself up for complete disaster, especially when Huberdeau and Kadri have already basically proven that they aren't going to come anywhere close to playing up to their deals.
