Rankings to go HERE by 3:00 pm eastern, noon Pacific. In the meantime, reflect on your divisional winners. We won't be seeing them in action until round two.

By the way, with 30+ GMs voting the voting was still so close in some divisions that if agent dale cooper and BM67 had voted (and both in a certain way) they could have made the difference between 1st and 5th in at least one division!

It has been suggested that match-ups just be released instead of standings. But that would buck tradition. WE could do that only if many of you speak up here for it. Otherwise, the rankings will be released this afternoon, and simply consider how very competitive it has been this ATD season, and that upsets may abound come the postseason.

And give it up for BM67, for being our rock through the tough times in this draft as in past ones. Whatever has kept him from voting, we know it must be serious. He is the man.

Here are the ATD10 divisional rankings for the regular season:

Jim Robson Division
1. San Francisco Spiders
2. Nanaimo Clippers
3. Victoria Secrets
4. Trail Smoke Eaters
5. California Golden Seals
6. Seattle Metropolitans
7. Victoria Salmon Kings

Foster Hewitt Division
1. Houston Aeros
2. Kenora Thistles
3. Kansas City Scouts
4. Regina Pats
5. Winnipeg Jets
6. Team Iceland
7. Dallas Blackhawks

Bob Cole Division
1. Detroit Falcons
2. Buffalo Bisons
3. Lada Togliatti
4. Detroit Red Wings
5. Toronto Marlboros
6. Toronto Maple Leafs
7. Pittsburgh Penguins

Rene Lecavalier Division
1. Montreal Canadiens
2. New Jersey Devils
3. Rocket de Montreal
4. Monteal Maroons
5. New Haven Nighthawks
6. Stockholm Subbans
7. Philadelphia Blazers

... why are we slow-rolling this?

Good question. I not mean to be rude but I want to know those results as soon as possible.

Anyway : Kudos to VanIslander and Nalyd Psycho for organizing the voting.

Last but not least : Congratulations to all divisional winners! Bunch of great teams though the winners don't exactly ressemble my voting except for the Falcons.

I have no objections to releasing the standings, though I also don't care much if we don't. We already saw a #6 seed break through to the divisional finals last time (knocking off a #1 seed along the way), so I don't think the rankings affect the results of the playoff matchups.

I'm sure both absentee GMs have a good reason. Having missed my own team's semi-final appearance in ATD#9, I cannot throw stones.

Finishing first is a pleasant surprise. I'm looking forward to the playoffs.

Ouch, when the team you considered the 2nd worst of the draft finishes first in its division, you wonder if all that number-crunching was useless, or if you do understand nothing about hockey...

This said, congrats to the Spiders for finishing first in the extremely tough Robson division! Not the team I had first, but it was extremely close between 1st and 4th in that division (without including our team), so that one could have gone either way.

Nighthawks finish fifth
a shakeup of the tarnished Silver 7

Coach Art Ross is livid that his champion-laden Nighthawks finished in the bottom half of the division with an unnoteworthy special teams play despite legendary pp and pk play by Beliveau, Bourque and Bower. On a team deep in fast, talented, clutch performers, some receive the blame more than others for a puzzling, controversy-filled regular season everyone wants to put behind them.

The Silver Seven core is singled out, some say unfairly, and McGee's line heading into the playoffs has been cut to no more than equivalent third line play, both T. Smith and Hyland find themselves off the top powerplay unit despite decent numbers in an attempt to wake up expectatons for this team, Joliat added to Beliveau's left side and two-time stanley cup champ WHA legend 6'1 Tardif added to the powerplay and on the regular roster, bumping Tommy Smith to his regular position of center and versatile Walsh to the right side in place of the now disappeared Axelsson, the only non-champion on the roster whose defensive play isn't faulted by the organization but his lack of playoff experience has apparently seen him listed as not dressed for the first round of the playoffs. Tardif takes his spot on the second pk unit alongside Beliveau, a potent duo for plenty of shorthanded goals, as they are accustomed to.

The blueline has morphed during the regular season, with S7 stalwart Pulford ending the season as the number six in ice time, no longer on Bourque's pairing, instead relegated to defensive zone face-offs and the penalty kill, his athleticism and physical strength deemed too much of an asset in what is expected to be a hard-fought postseason series in the first round. Gusev is pencilled in as the team's extra skater with Lacroix only available in cases of injury.

New Haven alternate captain Alf Smith openly protested the coaching decision to cut the role of the Silver Seven core and so it came as no surprise when he was stripped of the 'A" and it was given to the now second line pivot Starshinov, whose line has been beyond reproach, the Soviet great forward's line getting more ice time along with Tsygankov and Kuzkin moving up in minutes, with Pulford going down and Ching moving up to add a lot of mustard on the Bourque top pairing, though Babe Siebert will rotate in and out of that slot, The Big Three expecting to handle heavy minutes on the blueline.

So the Nighthawks line-up, as of the end of the regular season, is changed to:

Aurele Joliat - Jean Beliveau (C) - Harry Hyland
Gaye Stewart - Vyacheslav Starshinov (A) - Boris Mayorov
Alf Smith - Frank McGee - Billy Gilmour
Marc Tardif - Tommy Smith - Marty Walsh
extra: Andre Lacroix

Raymond Bourque (A) - Ching Johnson
Babe Siebert - Gennady Tsygankov
Viktor Kuzkin – Harvey Pulford
extra: Alexander Gusev

Johnny Bower
Riley Hern

Power play units:
PP1: Aurel Joliat - Jean Beliveau - Marc Tardif - Raymond Bourque - Babe Siebert
PP2: Gaye Stewart - Vyacheslav Starshinov - Frank McGee - Viktor Kuzkin - Ching Johnson

Penalty killing units:
PK1: Marty Walsh - Aurele Joliat - Raymond Bourque - Gennady Tsygankov
PK2: Jean Beliveau - Marc Tardif - Harvey Pulford - Ching Johnson

I sense a little dissension among the ranks of New Haven as they head to the Maroons barn for their first round matchup.

Every single team, all 28, received at least one 1st place vote.

Judgements varied - a lot.

"It was a very competitive season with many ups and downs for teams."

Do some team press releases and adjust your lines early if you want (here or via PM).

The playoffs start tomorrow.

Last.

... right.

You know what, I have to agree. I thought I didn't like your team but after analyzing everything numerically, position by position, line by line, your team came out first in our division. Even after accounting for a slight penalty for not being an "all-time" team. You have a serious lack of offense but I thought your team defense more than made up for it.

You never know - it could have been really, really close. One guy ranking you 4-5 spots higher may have been the difference between 4th and 7th for you.

Personally, I'm a little disappointed too. With the reviews of my team I've received, I've hyped this team up in my head so much that I was surprised to not be 1st or 2nd. I have to keep reminding myself, it may have been really, really close. The difference between a bye and a matchup with a good opponent could have been extremely slim, like 2 or 3 votes.

Grrr... another matchup with VCL. I'd rather have an opponent I've never had before, but at the same time, I had a lot of fun against VCL in ATD9 and this one will be no different. It was called the best matchup of the first round last time. Despite Sturminator's comment above, I have no intention of it being that close this time, quite honestly. That was too close for comfort!

Thoughts...

*Disappointed with third. Expected to get first. First place is huge this year. You finish first, you get a first round bye and a team that's 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th. All of the 4 vs. 5 series look tough. And if a 6 or a 7 advances, it'll be a tough series. So first place is huge.

*A real crapshoot for the rankings. Six and seven in each division were usually easy to pick. One to five was the challenge. I don't think I picked one division winner correctly. Can you say parity, kids? That's good. I knew you could.

*Some match-ups to watch:
-Trail vs. California: I had both of these teams higher than they actually finished. A damn good team will go out in the first round.
-Kenora vs. Dallas: Dallas is built for the playoffs. A classic contrast in styles.
-Regina vs. Winnipeg: These two teams met in the first round in ATD 9, too. A classic rivalry for the first round. These two cities don't like each other. What will be the wager for this series?
-Montreal Maroons vs. New Haven: It might not be the best series, in fact, it won't be, but with Murphy vs. VanI, it'll be the series with the most talk. What will be the final post count? The over-under is at about 75. Let the yapping begin.

The winningest Bruins coach vs. the yappiest Bruins coach, guys who play big at centre (Messier and Stewart vs. Beliveau and Starshinov), Seibert vs. Siebert, what is there not to love!

I'd be willing to take the votes and do the break downs on how many 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th n 7th votes each team got

Actually, a breakdown would be really interesting. We could see where the voting was really close, and which teams came out safely on top or far from the pack at the bottom. I'd like to see that in my division, where very little separated all the teams (except my own, but you can't really call me impartial). I'd really like to see how many 1st, 2nd, 3rd place votes I received.

I would love to see other analysis done as well. Think about this:

1) Standard Deviation of votes. Could easily be done with a spreadsheet. Which user consistently deviated from what the majority thought? Which user's rankings ended up the closest to the aggregate ranking?

2) Most divergent team. Was there a team that was consistently ranked at the top and bottom of its division? was there one that was consistently ranked at the same position?

I'm sure there would be other fun and interesting stuff we could do with it.

Look. I stated "played big" at centre, and just like Mess, he played big.

Starshinov was "a feisty character, his love to play physical and hard-hitting hockey"
http://www.chidlovski.com/personal/1972/yroster/ru08.htm

He is also one of the most prolific scorers in Soviet history who had success down low and near the crease, taking the abuse and giving it.

:shakehead yourself!

feisty or not, some scrub you picked up in the 23rd round doesn't deserve to be mentioned among those three.
