Here's another aspect the Logan defenders are completely glossing over

The Habs did not contact the victim prior to the selection. They said they plan to reach out to them later.

That is a prepared act of omission. They didn't want the additional context so they could select him.

How do you know if the player deserves a second chance at this time without consulting the victim?

Why would they have to reach out to her at all?

They drafted a hockey player who was available. It has nothing to do with her. They don't need her consent to draft him or her opinion. It's unrelated.

I'm not sure why they plan to reach out to her at all. How weird is that? Seriously, if I were her I wouldn't want that.

The fact that you always try to make this be some sort of war is just mindboggling for me...

We're all Habs fans here for god sake! I hope we are! Sometimes I feel like it's not the case though...

Can you tell me why do you always question everything this organization does?

But it goes a lot farther than just questioning, you're usually convinced they royally f***ed up!

And this is just another example of the same behavior...

Self-righteousness everywhere !

Damn the kid acted like a jerk, did something stupid, apologized, paid a fine, and most definitely will get a nice check to the girl in compensation.

Now do we need to hang him ?

Come on, get off your high horses, the worst accusations comes from people who did the same.

Still wonder what the f*** Bergevin was thinking, I hope he knew that pick would be controversial, kid and the organization being torn apart and all...

it was inferred to those that defend the pick.

Inferred is a good word. I wouldn't care if another team selected him. What he did was pretty awful, but he was charged, he is young enough that it probably says nothing about who he will be, and him being drafted has nothing to do with what happened.

I really don't know how to feel about the pick, so I've decided to wait and see how it plays out, BUT holy shit am I ever entertained! As an entertainment product, the NHL rarely disapoints. lol

No! It's not evident at all!

Him showing his teammates those pics is not really proof of some sort of lack of character.

And we're talking about a 17-year-old kid here...

We should probably define what that mythical character even means before arguing..
Character is doing the right thing even when it hurts. This kid is devoid of it. Lack of parenting mostly. Have said that it can be developed, even in later years.

Yes, I partied with a visiting team in Mtl after a game in the 80’s. It was like animal house mixed into a porn film. People are snowflakes nowadays….not that what he did was right. He deserved a beating.
People should be asking the real reason why Chelios and Turcotte were so unceremoniously traded.

So is he devoided of it or he can still be salvaged? There's no grey zone on this board! You have to pick a side!

I don't think this has anything to do with being a Habs fan or even a hockey fan. Our values and moral are different. Some don't mind having a criminal in their teams and others don't accept that.

Where do you draw the line, what kind of infraction would you accept? Racism? Domestic violence? Child pornography distribution? We kicked Kassian out without playing a single game for being drunk inside a car that got into an accident.

I'm pretty sure if we blasted MB for not picking this kid you would defend MB for not damaging the team's image etc.

The entire planet knows who Logan Mailloux is and what he did FFS!

Is that minimizing enough for you?

The fact that it's known means nothing if it's not taken seriously.

I can quote you tons of comments here trying to make it sounds "normal", "not that bad" or "just a kid mistake".

It's part of the problem for 3 reasons :
- it normalize this behavior socially,
- it makes it more for likely to happen again since it's not viewed as bad,
- it creates more insecurity to all women.

This has been documented by social sciences for decades now. That's why it should stop.

It feels a bit like the Caufield pick: totally unexpected and definitely feels like Timmins and company feel he's the best talent available.
Considering that Caufield was projected to go higher and has no known character issues and this guy was projected to go lower and has character issues and a criminal record, to me it feels literally nothing the same.

You don't get to define character to me. To me, something like that is a complete lack of character. Can he change? Sure. But right now, he's a dick. I don't care if he's 17. That's not too young to know right from wrong.
