It’s totally based on name value and draft position. Teams employ scouts for a reason. If the league values him at a 7th and a tweener, that says far more about the player at the time than being a Top 10 pick 5 years ago.

The thing is that this is the sort of cheap trade that garbage teams like Vancouver sometimes should take a free shot on. The majority of the time, they bust, but sometimes you can get someone like a Michael Grabner (remember that name?) who was at one point a draft bust but was claimed off waivers and became a decent role player contributor for many years.

Winnipeg apparently moving on from Meier and adding Nino. Frowny face. Of course we didn’t have room last summer so we don’t presumably next year either but he’d be a good fit with the current group.
I wouldn't mind bringing him in, but would you move Martinook off the 3rd line to bring back Nino right now?

I don't see him as a top 6 upgrade, so where does he fit?

Been a while since Martinook has done much. His early season tear was a pleasant surprise, but I think he's back to normal now?
Martinook is the straw that stirs the Cup of that line

And by that I mean he's the one guy fast enough to get to the corners on the dump in and tie things up long enough for Jordo to gain position to hem the opponent in. Without Marty, that line looks sloooow

Sure. In a perfect world, Fast and Martnook could be replaced with more talented players though.

I’d put him in the Martinook spot without much concern. Martinook can do what he does from any line. Id feel comfy putting him in the top six if one of those guys got hurt as well.

Although not the early season star, he is still displaying energy (and much needed quickness on that line) and is part of the outstanding PK group right now

Poile retiring effect June 30 with Trotz as his replacement. I wonder if that will slow down the opportunities for teams to obtain Nashville's pieces while Trotz gets up to speed at this TDL.

I see him from time to time in the summer. Good person. I'm glad to see he is stepping away.

Trotz goes home again. Good for him.

Ranger game...up 3-1 now:
Miller gets a match for spitting. As a result, Playing with 4 defensemen
Zibs gets a Dougy slap shot on his ankle from close range and he assisted off into the dressing room. Would be a big loss for them. He's back for the 3rd.

In all the Meier gloom here's a positive hockey story. David Gust scored on his first shift last night (LY Wolve):

Interesting note about the Miller penalty. The last time a player spit on another, it was a 3 game suspension. If Miller is suspended 3 games, the Rangers would have to call up someone to replace him.

Which may not leave them enough cap space for Kane...
