That Jake Allen deal is solid. He took big strides last year. Was it last year or the year before when we absolutely shredded him? I think it was two years ago when we still had Lack.

Hey Chris Kelly is back. Him and Neil can ride the 4th-line/bench into retirement together.

Bet the Ducks are regretting letting Palmieri go.

He's very good. But what is St. Louis's plan with their goalies? Because they have Elliot there doing the same. Are they still going 50/50 with them?

Ducks acquire Bernier from the Leafs. There goes a potential destination for Miller at the deadline. :/

Ducks have acquired Bernier from the Leafs for a Conditional pick. They needed a backup after they traded Andersen to the same Leafs.

Crap. I hope Bernier doesn't have a bounce back year. My hockey pool really needs Gibson to run with the starting job.

Leafs pay Bernier 2 mill in bonus this July 1 then dump him for nothing. Couldn't imagine the fauxrage around here if that happened.

Yeah, people would be positively frothing at the mouth at the idea of getting assets in return for a pending UFA goalie with a .910 sv% over the last couple of seasons who carries a $4.15M cap hit. If there's one thing people on here hate, it's watching their team get draft picks in return for unneeded players.

even not knowing what those future considerations are, you have to think swapping andersen for bernier and adding that 30th pick is winning right?

I guess Bernier would make an OK backup. As a starter he's been absolutely AWFUL.

Wildly inconsistent, cannot hold the line when the situation really calls for it, always let in soft goals. Just a terrible terrible goal keeper.

I'm not willing to judge him until he plays in front of an NHL team. Sadly, the damage may already be done. He never had any help the entire time he was in Toronto.

He was very good in his first season in Toronto (.923 save % in 55 games for a non-playoff team with a terrible defense) but has really seemed to lose confidence and had technique breakdowns since then.

That was the season everyone was pointing to and saying "Leafs, the fundamentals suggest you are going to fall at some point". Leaf fans pointed to the start as proof that those fancy stats have no meaning.

They didn't stop to think and say "hmmm that is the case so why are we outperforming what the underlying numbers say?". And If I recall correctly, Bernier was sporting a 0.950+ SV% or something ridiculous well into the season and there were some ridiculous shooting percentages. Then things regressed to the mean as expected.

I would probably flip Miller for him to get the cost savings in Contract differences, who knows, maybe clouts could have gotten him back on track like he did with Marky.
