Best player in the series? I throw Boyle's name into the hat as well.

Yeah, Boyle, pretty much the entire defense, and Paquette closed the series really well. He doesn't seem to be a guy we have to worry about now.

But Stralman is sort of like what Flip was last year. There's a calmness to the way he does things that I think helps keep everything structured. I remember a long time ago (years) people talking about him like a new Lidstrom, and this series was the first time where I saw some pretty clear stylistic similarities. The way he steers guys wherever he wants and strips the puck from them--it's methodical. Gotta be one of the best non-RFA/ELC contracts in the league, if not the best.

All I heard on NHL radio today was how the Rags should have kept Stralman and not signed Dan Boyle

NYR fan here. A good portion of all Ranger fans were saying this the day Boyle was signed, and Stralman wasn't. At this point in their careers, he is clearly the superior player, even perhaps at the offensive side of the puck, defensively it's not even remotely close.

39 points vs 20 for Boyle. How was Anton offensively this year? Curious if his career high in point totals are from phantom PP assists on Stammer goals or if he actually took a step forward offensively from his NYR years. I have seen him join the rush a few times this year in TBL games, and defensively he's a rock like his Ranger days.

Also, out of sheer curiosity, do the TBL fans that refer to the Rangers as the 'Rags' do so because of the MSL/Cally situation or other bad blood btw the teams as a derogitory term, or just as a shorthand?

Stralman was great this year, on both sides. Our PP blew dog this year. So Stralman really took a step forward this year.

I think there's only one HFBolts poster that really cares one way or another WRT the Rangers. I'd like to play them just for the narratives, but I don't think the Rangers are terribly disliked.

I think it's been interesting for a lot of us to note how quickly MSL's welcome seems to have been overstayed in NY now.

I always hated NYR, sorry. With Montréal, the 2 teams I despise the most.

Personally, I don't care when people use the term 'Rags' when referring to the Rangers, however you don't usually hear fans of non-rival teams or teams that the Rangers haven't met in the playoffs, use it. That's why I was generally curious as to whether TBL fans were just using it as shorthand like 'sens' or 'preds' without knowing the history of it as a 'demeaning' term for the Rangers, but it seems otherwise. Maybe some fans still remember the Artie incident? haha

Anyway, good game from Stralman tonight and especially his partner Hedman, he impressed me with his rushes up the ice.

That pairing is literally our tower of power. They've been excellent through our first 8 post-season games, despite not putting up big offensive numbers.

I think Rags has caught on as a shorthand, regardless of meaning to be derogatory, unfortunately. I used to be annoyed with the Rangers overpaying for every FA and wasting them, so it started for me there, even though there was no personal rivalry with them. The MSL situation just makes me not want him to win the Cup, but I don't hate the other players so much.

I'm still a bit salty about the MSL thing. And go through periods of irritation with anything NY

Understandable.

But its really not Rangers fault and you got very Well paid :)

Actually you can also include Boyle and Stralsy in that deal. As a sweatener on top.

As a Rangers fan I can understand that people dislikes them, Big flashy city with endless cash and all that. But I have to say that I think the team has done nothing to earn that .. Last years.

Hard working, disciplined and no bs .. No agitators any more really and tries to stay out of the box. Pretty clean nowdays without the antics bs. Or maybe im homerized :)

Besides.. Wish the Bolts Well. Likeable team with former Rangers. If we dont Win I sure hope you do.

I think most if not all Tampa fans are happy with the deal, because look at Cally now and look at MSL now. All 3 ex-Rangers have been a major factor in these playoffs helping to win.

All 3 guys basically in some ways got the shaft from the Rangers, Callahan getting the biggest one. Rangers did not work with Boyle or Stralman to try and keep them, and Stralman has admitted was taken back by that. So these guys feel that the Rangers organization doesn't think very highly of them, which is why they go into beast mode when they play against the Rangers. Because they have something to prove.

Cally was a hard one. Not a top player but the captain. His salary demands was hard to fit in. I know he was chocked and rattled but Rangers has been D oriented with ambitions to build a deeper team.

Just didnt work out.

Boyle got offer but wanted a bigger role. He didnt get that promise and walked. I miss him, he always brought his best game come play off. But maybe it was best for him as Well to move on.

Stralsy was extremely thankful towards Rangers for getting the chance to have a career. And he took it! He got Big minutes and responsibility.

However, he was treated badly in the end. He got like 3 mill offer about the olympics.. Then heard nothing. He wanted to stay and agreed to a discount. I think he would have taken 3,5-3,8 if he got 4 years.. Agent told Rangers and they never even got back on that. My friend is a contact to Anton on other things.

Total disgrace how they treated him. But they wanted Boyle .. More Pp specialist was needed and again it was the wrong decision of course :)

But again. I think he loves it in Tampa. Great team with future where he gets Big minutes and can play more offense again. Got the term that his family wanted for so long. His first Real contract.

All in all.. Its just business and building team. You got a perfect player for your team and he got a perfect contract, according to his preferences.

Also, as you know of course... He and Boyle talked and with Cally. And they were super pumped to play together. Cally was always a hard working player so I guess he was very very popular amongst the players and connected Well with the depth players.

Cally had a lot of respect in that locker room, which is why those guys followed. Tampa has been a better fit for him, he is not the go to guy to score goals, He had 54 points this season , matching his totals for the 2011-12 season, that season he was 2nd in goals, and 3rd in points on that Rangers team next to Gaborik and Richards, this season he is 5th in points, and 4th in goals on this Tampa team, so there is less pressure. If you ever go to a game in Tampa you will see how much the organization and fans have embraced him, and it's really good.

Stralman wanted the same as Cally, job security. These guys don't want to get a phone call in the middle of the night, and say they have been traded to like Arizona or Buffalo. They both have young families and it can be difficult on their families. Rangers fans called Cally greedy where as he was willing to less if he got that NMC but Sather did not want to budge and glad he did not.

But Let's not kid ourselves, all 3 guys signed because Disney World is about an hour away. :sarcasm:

"When the pressure is at its highest and somebody walks out of there as calm as can be, that's Anton Stralman," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "Our team, you just hear the guys on the bench praise him, the things he's done for us. Having that confidence that we get to throw him over the boards every second shift, it's just a luxury for us."

"Stralman has never lost a Game 7 in his career."

Was a huge Stralman fan as he was coming up the Toronto system and I'll never forgive Burke for throwing him out like garbage for no reason. He's a smart, composed puck moving defenseman any great team could use. Glad to see him doing well in Tampa.

I really don't like to think about where we would be without him. He has been nothing short of stellar, and it's great to get him locked in long term at such an affordable contract. Excellent signing.
