How?

Steve Yzerman is one of the best GMs in the NHL. You're kidding yourself if you think they won't trade him instead of losing him for nothing. There are plenty of teams looking to add a good goalie right now. They'll get fair value for Bishop from a team looking to make a run for ex Dallas.

Why not keep him and go on a cup run with a two headed goalie monster... Insurance

The goal is the cup... not the sweetest prospect pool ... The Bolts will be fine without another 1st and B prospect

Getting Condon was good for the team for sure. Wonder if we would expose Hammond in the expansion draft?

Considering we're protecting Anderson, we expose both Condon and Hammond.
But Vegas is likely going to pick Darling and Murray (unless Penguins can somehow move Fleury).

If they can't move Fleury, which is unlikely, they'll just buy him out.

Sure, I don't disagree... I think it's something to consider.

I would think there is little chance Murray is not protected

They cannot protect Murray as long as Fleury is on the roster. Fleury has a NMC and must be protected, Pittsburgh can only protect one goalie.

You're right in theory, because Pittsburgh is going to make a move to leverage themselves against the draft. Either they'll trade Fleury or they'll trade Murray and Murray if traded will be protected by his new team. Obviously, it seems as though they'd probably want to keep Murray, but there's always a possibility that the return they'd get for Murray is so much greater than the one they'd get in a forced trade with Fleury, that they opt to keep Fleury and trade Murray. tongue twister.

This is what I mean.

There is a very low chance (5%<) that they don't keep Murray.

Fleury will be bought out if need be, they will not be going ahead with him as the starter. He isn't the starter this year.
