James Winkler: Highly talented power forward who could develop into a NHL player, leaving prep to play juniors next year. Should go to the Q in my opinion. The most upside of any player on this list.

Austin Ricci: Parents are from Canada and moved to the states so he could go to an American college, so I doubt he would go to the Q.

Zach Sanford: Just signed to BC, so doubtful that he would leave for the Q.

Jake McCarthy: Plays on the same prep team as Hannafin, probably goes if Hannafin goes.

Bobby Dray: Wants to go to the Q. Would be a 4th liner and a grinder/fighter if he goes. Needs to learn the game, could develop with the right coaching.

Patrick Flynn: Plays for the Advantage, the same team that Garlands dad basically started, so he might make the jump like Connor did.

Someone will grab him early. Looks like he will go NTDP but I bet my house it's only for a year. Will jump to Q his draft year if the right team takes him. The kid will never plat at BC and if for some miracle he does it will be one and done he's that good.

Several Mainers selected in QMJHL draft

LEWISTON – In June of 2011, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League folded the Lewiston Maineiacs, but at the same time instituted a rule in which each team must take two Americans in its entry draft.

Well, that rule has led to more Maine kids being drafted in the QMJHL. In 2011, goaltender Jon Gillies went in the ninth round to the Quebec Remparts, last year Winthrop native Mark Dufour went to Drummondville in the 13th round.

This past Saturday was a banner day for kids who call Vacationland home as four players saw their name called.

That's part of the reason why the QMJHL implemented the rule of minimum 2 Americans per team at the draft. I'm sure it's the goal of the CHL to eventually take over the US junior hockey market

The QMJHL has been asking to expand its US territory for a long time but Branch won't give up. He's the commissioner of the CHL but also of the OHL. He won't give up a part of OHL's territory even if right now, they're have and advantage. He even admitted it himself that the OHL had an advantage in US territories. It's well known that he has always done what's best for the OHL first. He shouldn't do both jobs but right now he's too powerful to get rid of him.

What helped the WHL is the development of the California market. The NCAA isn't as strong as it his in the New England area.

As long as Branch will be head of both the OHL/CHL, I don't see him giving up more States to the QMJHL.

The OHL has more depth than the QMJHL and one of the major reasons is the number of Americans in each league. Of course, there's the language barrier but it isn't as important as some people might think. If it was, there would be numerous Americans in the Maritimes teams but there aren't more than in the Quebec teams.

He'd have them host the Mem Cup every year if he could.

As much I would love to see an American Division it wouldn't happen with all the hockey options in New England.

Maine

Portland - Lewiston did a two game experiment once, no one showed up. The AHL isn't leaving anytime soon.

Bangor - A brand new 10,000 seat arena but doesnt have the necessary equipment to have ice right now. Bangor is right in the heart of UMaine country so no one would show up.

Lewiston - I think people realized what they have lost but again we are ways away to think they will have a Q team.

Massachusetts

Just too many hockey options through out the state.

Hartford

They have the AHL and the NCAA teams in Conn. are on the rise Yale, Quinnipac, Connecticut.

Any high level junior hockey to come to New England will come under the USA Hockey umbrella whether it's the USHL or the newly formed UPSHL which ate up most of the EJHL teams. Right now the USPHL isn't a fan driven league .

You are correct but I believe that was before the CHL divided the United States up between the three leagues
