Yup. My respect for Rashard Mendenhall has just gone through the roof...

Why I retired at 26

Over my career, because of my interests in dance, art and literature, my very calm demeanor, and my apparent lack of interest in sporting events on my Twitter page, people in the sporting world have sometimes questioned whether or not I love the game of football. I do. I always have. I am an athlete and a competitor. The only people who question that are the people who do not see how hard I work and how diligently I prepare to be great -- week after week, season after season. I take those things very seriously. I've always been a professional. But I am not an entertainer. I never have been. Playing that role was never easy for me. The box deemed for professional athletes is a very small box. My wings spread a lot further than the acceptable athletic stereotypes and conformity was never a strong point of mine. My focus has always been on becoming a better me, not a second-rate somebody else. Sometimes I would suffer because of it, but every time I learned a lesson from it. And I'll carry those lessons with me for the rest of my life.

Read the whole thing. Great stuff.

Mike Vick signed with the Jets this week.... are they paying him $5mil to start games for them? To back up Geno Smith?

Is he a 1-year placeholder, and they'll let Smith start games in 2015?

MLB has done their best to destroy opening day, but it's here... well, North American opening day anyway.

Dodgers/Padres are the only game today. Dodgers already opened their season in Australia over a week ago, with two wins over Arizona.

Blue Jays open the season with a four game series in Tampa against the Rays. Home opener is next weekend with the Yankees in Toronto.

Here's hoping they crack 80 wins this season. :D

2nd round of the Masters almost complete.
Delaet had a much better 2nd round ending at even for the day, but with his disastrous +8 in the first round he will not make the cut.
Mike Weir got himself up to tied for 3rd after the first 9 when he was -4, but a +4 on the back nine dropped to even but he still made the cut and is currently tied for 21st.

6 Canadians on the Web Com Tour this week but it looks like only one Adam Hadwin will make the cut, he is currently tied for 13th.

^^^ Raptors playoff tickets are the most expensive in the NBA. MLSE knows people will pay it.

I love the raptors btw. I don't think they will beat the nets, who tanked just so they could match up with the raptors

I know nothing about NBA. Did the Nets really throw and drop just to play TO?

Stubhub has upper section tickets for $154. The retail prices are crazy. Sigh.. MLSE for you. They'll still sell the place out.

I remember our SCF standing room tickets were $99 - same as Raptors round 1.

Well everyone is suggesting that was what the Brooklyn nets were doing as they were resting their starters and getting blown out by some very crappy teams. If they hadn't tanked they would have faced the bulls who are all heart/toughness, elite defense and have playoff experience. The raps are young and have no playoff experience.

People also think they did it because if they do beat the raptors than they would face Miami (who will 100% get to the second round) who they swept this year.

NBA would love a Brooklyn/Miami series so I'm guessing the refs will be on the nets' side

Anyone else watching the under-18? Travis Konecny really is something. It's one thing to do so well as a rookie with the 67s, but he's really bringing it in the world stage as well. Kid is going to be something special in the NHL.
