Scott D’Amore (whose creative I have very much enjoyed) just oversaw the rebranding/relaunch of the company, their most financially successful shows of the entire Anthem era and brokered negotiations with WWE for the Rumble…and was fired today.

I hope there isn’t some horrible story as to why. But doing it for some bs corporate restructuring like they’re pitching is a mistake on its own. The guy was really good at his job. There’s only so far a promotion of their size can realistically get too…and he was writing very strong TV. At least IMO.

Just weeks after the company held its most successful weekend in years, Hard to Kill in Las Vegas, Scott D'Amore is out as the TNA President, PWInsider.com can confirm. D'Amore has been terminated by TNA parent company Anthem Sports and Entertainment. The belief among those we have spoken with is the decision came directly from Anthem owner Len Asper.

TNA parent company Anthem Sports and Entertainment will be stepping in and taking a much larger role in the day to day management and strategies of the promotion. TNA will be folded into Anthem’s entertainment arm going forward, as opposed to existing in its own corner of the company. The idea is that this will allow TNA to become embraced more by Anthem and have a stronger synergy, in order to maximize what each side has to offer the other. As part of that integration, D’Amore has been removed from power and is gone, effective immediately.

I can’t help but think of the number of really great talents that are in/stick with TNA largely because of Scott. Josh Alexander, Mike Bailey, Moose, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, KUSHIDA…all directly related to Scott’s history or at least have publicly stated in the past how important he is to them.

Who knows about people like Austin, Bey, Grace, Trey and other talents…he was well liked but this group isn’t as obviously closely bonded to him

Not to mention he got the New Japan partnership back against all odds.

There could be a lot of very talented people looking to move on when their contracts are up.

If it isn’t some f***ed up conduct thing Tony should bring him in let him run with ROH.
We’ll have to see if there is a disqualifying reason for his removal…but if there isn’t Scott shouldn’t have much trouble landing on his feet. He has worked with everyone from HHH and Tony to Rocky Romero and Dorian Peña closing deals and creative plans in the last several years.

Bought into the Stardom show in Philly on the Thursday before Wrestlemania.

At 3pm

I thought about a potential Spring Break trip:

April 1: Raw (Brooklyn)
April 2: Penguins@Devils
April 3: Devils@Rangers
April 4: Stardom
April 5: Smackdown
April 6: NXT; Mania Night 1

Probably won't be able to do it, but it would have been fun to scratch off ECW Arena on the old bucket list.

The early news on the D’Amore firing is that it really was just about disagreements in company direction. He and the owner disagreed for a while and he was never going to win those arguments. It wasn’t a knee jerk reaction…to the point where D’Amore found financial backing and made an offer on the company because he knew his days were numbered for a while.

The good news is that there does not appear to be any bad situation thats going to come out. It seems to be legitimately about how Anthem wants to run the company. There have been all kinds of rumors about wanting to do live shows for TV again but I can’t figure out which side wanted that. We know they made big money pitches to both Punk and Ospreay. If WWE hadn’t changed their minds on Punk there’s a decent chance they were going to land him. PWInsider said today they made an offer to Ospreay that he genuinely considered before signing the AEW deal. So we know Anthem will spend big money on what they consider the right thing…and TNA isn’t going away or anything.

More importantly, since it was Anthem’s side that confirmed it…there is no bombshell coming on why D’Amore had to be removed seemingly out of nowhere.

from today's pwinsider.com:

TNA held a meeting with Zoom with talents to inform them of Scott D’Amore’s departure this afternoon and to introduce everyone to new TNA President Anthony Cicone, who will be heading the day-to-day of the company going forward. Anthem Head Len Asper was on the call as well.

A number of talents on the call relayed to PWInsider.com that during the meeting it was stated that D’Amore had “stepped down” from the company, which was not the case and not even what was stated in the company's official statement. We are told by several that this did not sit well with some of the talents and as one wrestler said, “This wasn’t the way to start off” a relationship with the locker room, especially since so many talents had a connection with D’Amore and that the vast majority liked D’Amore.

Cicone read what was described as a “prepared statement,” which some didn’t like but others noted that he was in a no-win situation given he was replacing D’Amore.

There was nothing specific stated about creative going forward, but the remainder of the creative team beyond Scott D’Amore are still with the company.

The meeting did not give talents a chance to ask any questions, which we can confirm did not endear some talents to the changes, either.

The beginning of the call, when talents were informed about Scott D’Amore’s departure before Anthem execs joined them, was extremely angry for some talents while some of the veterans tried to calm the waters, noting they have to at least give the new exec a chance.

One TNA personality who was on the call commented that Anthem “had a lot of work to do” moving forward.

There are some taking a "wait and see" stance as they look to see how it shakes out and whether there are additional changes. There are others trying to keep the faith in the fact that the remainder of the team was still in place and that they had to bear down and get back to work when the No Surrender PPV comes in New Orleans.

It should be noted that one story making the way around talents is that Anthem wanted the TNA brand to be more in-line with the parent company going forward and that the brand had been too D’Amore-centric with Scott as the face of the company. That was not addressed on the call, however. While D’Amore was regularly on TNA programming as the head of the company, he was also the company’s biggest cheerleader, no different than Paul Heyman in ECW or even Tony Khan in AEW, someone who was living 24/7 for TNA and in many ways, his life was entangled with TNA brand, at least, until today.

I don’t remember ever seeing something like that before. Feels like they should just bring him back. The roster went about this in a classy and respectful way. Not bringing him back seems like an unnecessary harm to your employees. And doing it buys you a ton of goodwill and lets the wrestlers feel included and empowered.

Scott isn’t a person they have to worry about if they did bring him back. He loves wrestling. He loves that roster. He loves TNA more than anyone. It’s really just a matter of the owner getting over that he butts heads with him sometimes because D’Amore wants what’s best for his team.

Anthem has what I consider an easy decision here. They will no doubt make it difficult.

It really speaks to what that roster thinks about Scott D’Amore.

Major announcement today from the NWA.

BILLY CORGAN & NATIONAL WRESTLING ALLIANCE (NWA) ANNOUNCE DEAL WITH THE CW NETWORK

LOS ANGELES, CA February 21, 2024 – Today, GRAMMY® Award-winning founder of The Smashing Pumpkins and National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) President Billy Corgan proudly announces an exclusive streaming deal for NWA with The CW. Under this newly minted all-encompassing partnership, multiple NWA programs will be streaming and on-demand via The CW platform and portal in the United States.

Democratizing access to action-packed wrestling from some of the sport’s biggest, boldest, and brightest personalities, all programming is notably available free of charge and without a subscription via The CW app. It represents a monumental power move for NWA. The partnership not only amplifies the brand’s presence throughout popular culture and the zeitgeist, but it also sets a precedent for wrestling, at large.

Flagship program NWA Powerrr is live on the platform now and features ‘Return to Robarts’ programming emanating from the historic Robarts Arena in Sarasota Florida. New episodes air weekly on Tuesdays with past seasons also available to stream. Additionally, the much-anticipated Paranoia Live Event on Powerrr is also now available on The CW. Shot on January 13, 2024 at Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, the signature live event Paranoia features some of the league’s top stars and a myriad of thrilling high-octane matches. Next up, the massive signature live event Hard Times 2024 will premiere on the platform as part of future episodes of NWA Powerrr, streaming on both CWTV.com and the CW app.

Regarding the alliance, Corgan commented, “The CW has made a big commitment to sports, and they have an incredible top-tier streaming platform. The network’s audience represents a very wide swath of American culture—which wrestling has always been a key part of. This partnership gives us the opportunity to reach that audience more readily. We’re excited to get the chance to show there are other voices in professional wrestling. With NWA, there’s honesty, integrity, and a different level of swagger, because it’s coming from the underground. It’s similar to rock ‘n’ roll in this respect. With The CW behind us, we’re pulling NWA into the light where fans can appreciate its authenticity.”

Additionally, a brand new unscripted untitled series about Corgan’s life, family, role as President of NWA, and his “day job” will also debut on The CW later this year. Co-produced by Corgan’s own production company Lightning One Inc. and Nacelle Company, it offers an unprecedented vignette into every dimension of his world with unparalleled candor.

Corgan continues to deepen the storied mythos and legacy of NWA—one of the oldest and most prestigious professional wrestling brands in the world. He has carefully curated matches and sought-out exciting new talent, building a haven for future superstars to shine with attitude, integrity, power, and panache.

As such, NWA currently serves as a home to the likes of EC3, Matt Cardona, “Thrillbilly” Silas Mason, Trevor Murdoch, Thom Latimer, The Immortals (Odinson and Kratos), Blunt Force Trauma (Damage and Carnage), Aron Stevens, Austin Idol, The Insane Clown Posse’s Violent J, The Brothers of Funstruction Yabo and Ruffo, Colby Corino, Mims, Max the Impaler, “The Sinister Minister Father James Mitchell, Burchill, Bryan Idol, Natalia Markova, Kerry Morton, Alex Taylor, May Valentine, among others.

With more heavyweights, more drama, and the most bravado, Billy Corgan, The CW, and NWA will enthrall and thrill inside and outside of the ring throughout 2024 and beyond. Stay tuned.

With that deal, coupled with the recent SD turmoil, the NWA may have just leaped TNA into the #3 brand.
