The guy has some skills but his defense is almost non existent. The biggest problem he has was far too many time just being flatfooted during plays just looking lost. This is not something coaches put up with. If you could put Joseph's ability to find the puck and break away speed into ABB you would have something ABB does have some ability to finish.

Can't hurt giving ABB time with Kucherov or Stamkos considering Hagel is a straight 0 across the board. ABB has never gotten a chance to play with Kucherov since he's only come up when he's injured.

Did he show anything at all in pre-season?

He might end up just a guy we rely on to be the best player in Syracuse, which hopefully translates into winning. Always a good thing to build a winning culture in the minors.

He has 6 goals in 29 games, Hagel has 6 goals in 50.

I didn't see any of the pre-season. Why didn't he make it?

He played 3 games on the 2nd/3rd line, none of the games with any of our top talent mainly with Koekpe and Usau, none of the offense was going in those games and the only guys who stood out were the "skate hard/fast" guys we have a plethora of but can't score.

Not sure why we never try our best offensive prospects with our best offensive players. We can run Stamkos-Point-Kucherov in the regular sesason but used 3 pre-season games to do that.

Yeah, Cooper really doesn't like giving guys that kind of shot until they prove something, usually for a long time, on the lower lines. Or until his hand is forced. Could it be something coming from the players? Like how we have seen Kucherov complain about talent being removed from his line.

It seems he puts anyone with who can slightly "create offense" with lesser players in hopes that he gets some offense out of that line though it rarely happens. Not everyone is a Kucherov who can create space for everybody, lots of offensive talents need other offensive talents to bounce off of and they don't get that chance here despite the top end players we have.

JAM, CV all showed flashes and never made it past a couple shifts on the 3rd line, Drouin was primed to play with Stamkos and got stuck with Boyle and Morrow. Miller was a PPG player on the top line, Cooper plays him on 4th line for "extra scoring" and he has his worst season in 4 years, then leaves and becomes a PPG+ player again on a another top line.

ABB with Stamkos makes too much sense but we stick Nick Paul and Killorn on there? The guy is on his last chances in the league, the least we can do is see if there's anything at all worth salvaging.

I’m not satisfied with how Cooper manages offensive talent either. But keep in mind ABB couldn’t even stick on a weak Seattle team last season.

They didn't pick him up to actually give him a legit shot though, bunch of their players went on covic protocol that week and they needed bodies in the lineup, once the regulars started coming back he was sent down.

He’s not going to be a daily player in the league. He needs top line talent but can not finish enough to earn top line minutes. There is a reason at his age he has not stuck in the league. Sometimes players never make the transition, he was given more than most over the last couple years. If he the defensive game he could have stuck for the 3rd or 4 line. He’s a one trick pony a sniper that has not proven so in the league. He’s nothing special like many of you try to make him.

Literally no team in the league wanted him on any line, much less staple him to a future hall of famer and captain.

This was the case not just when Seattle waived him, but every time he's cleared waivers for us.

Cooper isn't the issue here.

Can you imagine having the skill to be able to make that play but just not enough to go any further with your career. Too bad for him but he is a great asset for the Crunch.

Some guys just never make the adjustment to the extra speed in the nhl. Mental as much as physical, because you have to process the play in front of you. Brett Connolly was the poster child for that early in his career.
