Proposal: Adding Jagr or Jokinen

Since it's being sold as "all in time" which I'm basing off Chevy making moves on July 1, I think the Jets should target 1 more signing either Jokinen or Jagr.

Jokinen is my plan B, and although I think (due to the buyout) he comes in cheaper than Jagr, I'd still target Jagr for these reasons:

- Vet presence with playoff experience
- Ridiculous work ethic
- Name brand/recognition
- Excellent possession numbers in top 6 could translate well to a third line role/pp specialist
- Mentor for the young guys
- Still puts up points and excellent puck mover
- Won't need long term 2 year deal maybe?

Likely to get Jagr here you'd have to pay 4M per over 2 years but that won't handcuff the Jets in signing the young studs like Trouba, Morrisey, Ehlers and he comes off the books when Connor, Laine, Roslovic and Wheeler need new contracts. Having him on the third line shelters speed decrease and maximizes his ability to play puck control game against oppositions 3rd lines. Line matching this team will be VERY hard to do considering the speed, and leathality of the first two lines.

Ehlers-Scheif-Laine
Connor-Little-Wheeler
Perrault-Copp/Roslovic-Jagr
Dano-Lowry-Armia

Morrisey-Trouba
Kulikov-Buff
Enstrom-Myers

Mason/Helley.

I do kind of like the idea of a superstar mentor for our budding superstars - Jagr's a legend.

Would happily sign Jagr for a couple mill to play on the 3rd line. Wouldn't offer anything close to his 3.5-4m contracts he's gotten the last few years.

Huge no.

They are brutal fits to Jets game.
Jagr is so slow and liability defensively.

You'd have to play him in 1 of your top6 lines which doesn't make any sense.

He really isn't though.

He's still a legit top 6 winger. Adding top 6 wingers doesn't make a team worse. Grantred, the Jets have lots of those, but one more would not hurt the team.

Three scoring lines is the way to go. Jagr could help push Lowry down to the 4th line where he belongs.

I'd give him the 3.5-4 mil but only for 1 year. In fact I'd like to sign him month to month. He's fourty bleeping five!

This

We do not need anymore help upfront. Keep some cap space going into the season, to provide some flex to address any concerns that pop up during the season.

Would love to see Jagr in a Jets uni, but not at the expense of our younger players losing the opportunity to play in a top 6 role.

Jagr can still play, but we don’t really have room. The veteran player I’d like to add is Brian Campbell

I've watched so so many games from Florida since Jagr went there, and he doesn't make the Jets better.

He's slow, he takes lot of hooking/holding penalties because he tries to cheat. His shot last year seemed to decline badly, same went for his hands. Does nothing defensively.

He played with Barkov, and Huberdeau when Huberdeau was healthy. Anyone puts up points with those 2, they've been carrying Jagr for awhile. With Laine& Wheeler on the Rw it wouldn't happen with the Jets.

I would offer him a year at $1.2M just to see if he would sign. He's a bona fide superstar, and really who better to mentor the up-and-comers we have? Work ethic, intensity - I don't even mind signing him to play 2/3 games. Didn't Teemu do that towards the end too?

I feel like real experience is the only thing really now missing from our group, and taking up a spot for one season isn't going to hurt any of the bottom 6 players' development to the detriment of the future of the team.

I say do it if he's game.

I'd rather the Jets went for someone like Dwight King, or maybe Korpikoski.

might be the first time I've completely disagreed with one of your posts

Jagr is fine defensively and would actually fit with team structure as he's great on cycle and forecheck, but unlike 3rd line from last season, he can actually create off of it.

I've talked with lot of Florida fans and they say he's as 1dimensional as it gets.
He could be called for hooking/holding penalties every game because he doesn't have the skating, and Barkov has been doing the heavy lifting on that line.

Jagr could get us in the playoffs just by playing him in our powerplay

Maybe, but then he would vanish as soon as the playoffs start. The regular season he's still OK, but he can't up it a notch anymore for the playoffs. I would rather have someone who can help this team win in the playoffs.

Leave Jagr for some southern team that needs a name to get butts in the seats.

28 minor penalties in 82 games is far less than 1 per game. It is quite a bit, but far less than every game. Wheeler took 21, for reference. That's maybe 2 extra goals against. I'd wager he adds more than 2 G in the offensive end versus someone like Armia or Matthias.

Also, it would be cool as ****. And mullets.

If you are just looking for some old guy to mentor your young guys and maybe cost < $2MM/year I would rather take Doan over Jagr.

Why? Doan is a dirty player and he isn't as good.

Jagr would have Scheifele and Co. skating laps with a weight vest post game. Scheifele won't let anyone out-work him.
