2nd Period

9th shift, opening faceoff:
Very ill-advised pass under pressure from the d-zone corner. Instead of chipping backward for his defender, he backhanded it in front of the net and it was intercepted. Nothing came of the play, though Rogle took a penalty later in the shift.

Rogle PK, not his unit starting.

10th shift, on the fly, PK - 40 seconds left:
Rogle defender takes another penalty, Edstrom levels attacker to get the puck and force whistle.

5v3 against for 25 seconds. No Edstrom.

11th shift, off zone draw, PK - 1:00 left:
Looked good. Got his stick on a shot attempt from behind the attacker and the next time in that situation that attacker never tried to shoot, instead circling back toward the boards. Terrible PK setup though; allowed multiple A+ cross-ice one time chances. Whether it's due to execution as a unit or not, I don't know. Rogle killed penalty.

12th shift, on the fly:
Won a quick puck battle on the boards to keep the cycle going, then provided a screen in front. Play was stopped by a hook; Rogle going to PP.

13th shift, def zone draw, PP - 9 seconds left:
Got the puck on the zone entry and went wide on the left side. Got a half-step on the defender, but lost control of the puck when he tried cutting to the net. His teammate picked it up, and Edstrom eventually situated himself in front and deflected a point shot just wide. Then nearly deflected a high wrister from the opposite half-wall a few second later.

14th shift, otf while Rogle had off possession:
Outskated a tired defender to get the puck back to his point, then got his stick on a deflection while he was being knocked off balance. It either missed the net or the goalie got a piece. Entire shift wasn't 10 seconds long.

15th shift, on the fly:
Was a step behind a breakout pass from a teammate. He could have been more decisive on his line and it would have been a 3v2 rush, but again, he seems averse to putting himself in positions to handle the puck. In the off zone, went from standing still in the slot to splitting the defensemen to be open in tight, but linemate couldn't get pass through. Then, again got his stick on a point shot while being pushed off balance. Nobody can stop him from going to the net and staying there.

Rogle PK, Edstrom on 1st unit.

16th shift, def zone draw, PK:
Got caught a little too low a couple times, but is deceptively quick at covering that space and was able to cover up and stop any good chances from starting at the point.

17th shift, on the fly, PK - 13 seconds left:
Used long reach to break up a neutral zone pass and finish off the PK. Team gained entry and he immediately went to the front of the net, but the puck never arrived before the end of the period.

3rd Period

18th shift, opening faceoff:
Negated opposing winger on faceoff, and played loose puck back to his defenseman. Hopped on a loose puck at the left dot and took a wrist shot that was blocked. Then barely lost a 1v2 board battle in the corner, but hustled cross-ice to the opposite half-wall and got there in time to stop an outlet attempt and keep the play alive.

19th shift, def zone draw:
Uneventful shift, neither team did anything much, and the puck was only even within reach of Edstrom one time (on a teammates clear).

20th shift, on the fly:
Two seconds into shift, puck went over glass and was then a def zone draw. Good chip in, that teammates couldn't get to. Later, on a different entry, he one-touched a nice pass to a guy crossing the line then went and stood in front of the net while his team controlled the play. Chased the puck behind the net and probably got away with a tripping penalty on the defenseman. But regained possession, passed it on, and went back to his home at the top of the crease.

Rogle PP, 7:31 into period.

21st shift, on the fly, immediately following PP:
A bit scrambly as both teams transitioned to 5v5. Rogle got a dangerous chance with a rebound getting kicked into the slot, but neither he nor his linemate could get a stick on it; though it would have been a stretch for Edstrom to have a chance there.

22nd shift, on the fly:
Forced a turnover at the defensive point, leading to a 4v3 rush that Rogle gained entry on. He stationed in front, but a teammate's wrap-around attempt lead to a turnover. He then chased down a forward on the backcheck, got stick on the stick to force a turnover, then rubbed him out on the boards.

Rogle PK, his unit not starting.

23rd shift, def zone draw, PK - 1:40 left:
Not great shift for the PK unit, but they got away without a GA. He seemed to be doing his job, but it looks like he's out of position sometimes; lots of movement. I don't know if that's him over-committing or if it's how they want to try to kill penalties though. The whole squad is guilty of it. After they cleared the puck, despite being tired, he caught the defender at his own blueline and knocked him down before changing.

24th shift, off zone draw:
Created havoc in front during a point shot. Either him or his linemate tipped it en route, but the goalie got a piece. Was a little slow in picking up his man on the backcheck, but the play never came that way.

25th shift, on the fly, inside 3 minutes:
Pressured the point in the def zone, knocked the puck loose and then chased it down and knocked it loose from a forward on the half-wall, gaining possession for a breakout. Only like a 15-20 second shift.

Going to overtime.

lol, to Edstrom's credit, I think he's already shed any potential of being a bust. Whether he ever makes the jump to NA, who knows; but he's overachieved for what most people would have predicted.

I hope he can be our Brian Boyle type checking center for us. I hope he signs next summer so he can play for the Hartford Wolfpack in 22-23 season and get used to the smaller ice. .

We need to bring him up, put him in camouflage and let opponents run into him all game.
