I want both Latta and Beagle on the 4th line. Beagle remains the only guy on this roster who can be counted on to win a faceoff.

Think I would have preferred Malhorta over Beagle. Malhorta signing with Montreal for slightly less than what Beagle earns and I believe Manny's better in the dot.

He's a lefty (like Backstrom and Laich). Handedness can matter in the faceoff dot. You want faceoff specialists of both handednesses, so you can be fine regardless of which side of the ice the draw is on.

Caps came into today with 12 million in cap room and are still on the playoff bubble.

At least they're not the islanders.

They're going to have to make trades now if they're realistic about this roster. Even if they spend $3M for Morris and another $3M for Legwand (cheap for him) with their remaining cap space they're still squarely more on the fringe questionable side of things than a safe playoff team. It would take a lot of elevated play from their forwards overall for them to pick off one of PIT/PHI/NYR/CBJ.

I dont wannt hear **** about Oprik's deal when comparing it to what Engelland just got paid per season.

Unfortunately we don't have an infinite amount of cap space to work with here soooooooo Orpik's contract still sucks.

MacLellan available at 6:30 PM at Kettler. Does this mean we're done?

Philly surprisingly quiet today but you are spot on. Orpik does add an element that's tough to play against but his age, injuries and the fact that no penguin on his chest to protect him from his often edgy play is a lot to bank on as far as improvement.

Luckily they scooped up the good coaching staff.

Peters at 4:30PM and Orpik at 5PM. Leaves two slots for other signings?

He still has a few hours to come up with an overshadowing event.

Philly is capped out until they move (if they can) Lecavalier or Grossman. No surprise there. Columbus hasn't done much after the Hartnell deal but they're pretty well set.

Sign Niskanen
Trade green to Detroit
Trade for Oduya
Sign Legwand
Move Erskine

Even if Niskanen isn't signed, Oduya should be a target. UFA after the season.

Alzner-Green/Niskanen
Orpik-Carlson
Oduya-Orlov

Is really, really solid.
