JVR simply replaced Clarke MacArthur who put up 20+ goal 55-65 points seasons playing in the top 6. MacArthur was picked up for free off the scrap heap originally.

Now the Leafs are looking to replace Luke Schenn as he is exactly what the Leafs need a young, right handed, big, physical, hard hitting, shot blocking defender capable of playing top 4 minutes and partnering with an offensive partner giving the pairing balance.

Leafs have to seek such a player via trade because they don't appear to have his replacement internally.

Perhaps JVR can be used as bait to acquire this much needed top 4 dman now? As RH Top 4 dmen are in big demand around the league and costly to acquire as everyone wants them.
Schenn was traded as a bottom pairing defenseman. We have Franson and Fraser in that role now, both seemed to be doing well, so it's tough to say the Leafs are looking to replace Schenn.

Sign Ian White (RD) and Paul Ranger (LD) then deal one or both of Gunnarson and Frason as part of a package for Stastny.

White sucks.

Trading Franson would be a huge mistake. He's essential to our offense.

He's on pace for 8 goals, 47 assists, 55 points in a full 82 game season.

It's like having an extra top line forward lol...

Besides we don't need Stastny either. It's not like he could be placed on the second line and uses as a shut down guy. Point being, I don't see how he's appropriate for Kessel who requires someone who can score. Even Sidney Crosby developed his shot, Stastny, on the other hand, is pretty overrated.
