When Ryan McDonagh is your leading goal scorer for a tournament, there's a problem.

Meh game, could have gone both ways. Many mistakes in D on both sides (lost pucks, bad passes, odd man rushes), perhaps a bit more mistakes by team USA, but we were mostly unable to punnish them...

Overall good result for team CZE in the tournament considering what we have... Ending up 6th with 3 points, one OT goal away from advancing. I'm happy it didn't end up with an embarrassment for us. The Finns and USA have a lot to think about.

unlike them, we should stop thinking and start doing :)

Both team were negatively influenced by first games and just didnt recover from it. Team Europe is a good group of players with much lesser preassure on them. They still deserved to advance. Good we grab some points and fight for playoff till overtime...

Adding Kessel ..Faulk. ..shattenkirk would make them thtt much better???

Come on they just don't have the talent the use to.

No but those added with Gaudreau, Jones, Trouba, Eichel, and possibly Matthews does. Gets rid of Johnson, Johnson, Niskanen on back end, as well as trash like Callahan, Abdelkader, and Kesler

Get rid of the bad Johnsons and add the good one.

Andy Greene should have been on the defense. At least we would have some kind of way to stop the puck from getting to the net.

Good. I wish the game wasn't even that close. Maximize the embarrassment that hopefully leads to cleaning house.

Well i meant something to think about with regards to the tournament. I think our whole team from managers and coaches to the players (most of them anyway) did well under the circumstances. Unlike the Finns and especially unlike the epic fail that was team USA.
The development of youth is a whole different story.

I forgot he was even American. He definitely should have been there over a guy like Jack Johnson.

USA Hockey needs to hit the reset button before the Olympics in 2018

Yup. There should be TWO locks for Team USA in 2018.

-Patrick Kane
-Johnny Gaudreau

Everything else needs evaluation and re-evaluation. No more Tortorella. No more Lombardi. No more Holmgren. No more Burke. Clean slate on the management/coaching side.

Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, Justin Faulk, Seth Jones, Shayne Gostisbehere, and Morgan Rielly will all likely be there as well..but that should all be determined over how they play over the next year and a half.

The rest is up for grabs.

No more gifting spots to guys like Parise, Backes, J. Johnson, E. Johnson, etc.

My two cents on this debacle...

Torts should never sniff another job with USA hockey ever again. Literally any coach could have probably done a better job with the roster he was given. Torts needs to be put out to pasture like the cranky old warhorse he is, and this tourney made it clear as day.

At what point do we consider USA Hockey's National Development program an utter failure? The whole point of the program was to "close the gap" between the USA and Canada when it came to elite level hockey players and here we are 20 years later and the gap has never been wider or more obvious than right now. A number of the players on this team went through that program, and this is now the second time almost all of those players have failed to do... well, anything on an international stage. I'd even say the best players on this team are the guys that weren't a part of the USNDT and came up through juniors in Canada or the college route.

I'm good with Faulk being a thousand miles away from this dumpster fire.

In fairness, they've expanded grassroots hockey tremendously. The problem is NCAA hockey is still basically the same size it was 30 years ago. That means the VAST majority of youth players in America have no realistic path to the NHL. That's debilitating to the talent pipeline, and there's not a whole lot USA Hockey can do about it.

As much as i was pissed coz the OT loose to team Europe, now im glad that "Czech rep will end last/ not a one team worse than Czech rep/ etc "expert" opinions proved to be false.

That USA... team "built to fight the Canada for top spot" ended last (well technically 7th) tells you much about hockey experts and their "research".

Anyone wanna be a hockey expert? Awfully big number of sport magazines and servers should be searching for replacements right now.

Sorry for the USA fans. We czechs were at least prepared for not going to fight for top spots.

So how would you rank us before the tourney? Sure they overestimated Finnland considering their youth and lack of experiences, but consideting all facts you could hardly put us above US or even Team Europe....The other teams are undisputed...

So is this the first Czech victory against a Top6 country in a best-on-best tournament since the bronze medal game in Torino 2006?

Wow Callahan did not even play and calling him trash? Nothing surprises me with the lack of class on this forum. Unreal.

Being a huge Callahan fan, Actually one good thing came of this, Callahan was not part of this putrid train wreck of a team. So happy with that. He sacrificed the world cup so he could be ready for the Lightning season. Kudos to him there.

Man I love Phil Kessel. Used to see him around town chowing down at Chipotles. Nice guy. Even saw him on the subway one time!!

Adding Kessel, Johnson, Faulk, and Shattenkirk would've made them significantly better. In addition let Sullivan coach and boot Torts forever and the team would've been very competitive.

The US is producing a lot of great players. Compare it to the 80s and it's night and day. The 90s stars were probably slightly better, but there are more American players in the NHL than ever before. There's a slight gap right now but the next group with Gaudreau, Eichel, Matthews, Ghost, etc. is looking to be dynamite. It doesn't help that team USA didn't bring all their best players to the tournament.

I wouldn't call it a debacle, it's pretty much what I expected from the USA and other players or coach wouldn't have made it much better.
