Russo tweeted during the game he thinks Coyle will get the 2C spot. First time he's given an opinion on it.

It sounded like he had an amazing game and was 80% on faceoffs today, for what it's worth.

What does this mean for Granlund thou?

He absolutely deserves it. Coyle was the most impressive guy on the ice tonight as where Granlund was invisible unless he was turning the puck over. On a side note I also saw no improvement in Heatley whatsoever. It was one of the main things I was focusing on tonight.

Russo loved Granlund's game tonight, he was most impressed by both Coyle and MiG.

He was a lot of fun to watch tonight. I swear he's gotten faster too. It was more fun watching the kids tonight than the vets. Haula still needs a lot of work, but he had some good chances. He had some speed. It looked like the kids were able to turn on the jets more than the vets. No pun intended.

Loved watching Suter and Brodin too. They made some preseason mistakes, but there was one instance where Brodin had the puck and was trapped against the boards with 2-3 guys on him. Yet he didn't panic and somehow managed to get the rubber safely to Suter in the clear.

Granlund may have been more quiet, but he didn't look like the scared kid from last year. I'd say he's slowly progressing. I think he was more willing to get into the dirty areas. Plus, he didn't drop his stick 10 times. Had a nice play where he broke through traffic. Last year he would have gotten knocked down easily.

Heatley though...he is the same for the most part. Some people said he was a little faster and looked more improved during the first days of camp. I didn't see it at all.

Pommers will be our shootout specialist.

Ran into two NHL officials in the parking ramp. One nearly got his foot stuck in the elevator doors. Usually those the doors stop and open back up, but these ones were vicious. :biglaugh:

Top line needs work, but it was their first game. Trying to decide what we'll see first...a different, strong PP, this so-called improved Heatley, or a unicorn. ;)

Best line of the night overheard in the crowd..."At least it's not Skoula!"

I'm gonna learn to hate the Jets more than any other team in the NW. And if you think it was annoying having Hawks' fans at Wild games, you haven't seen anything yet. Props to those fans for showing passion as annoying as it was. We just sit back and take it. :(

Jets fan here

Yes we will be really annoying......so many Vikes fans from the Peg (lots of season ticket holders) that the road trips for the Vikes games will lead to double headers with the Wild games. The same fans you hate at the wild games will be wearing Purple Sunday cheering with you.....not sure it gets weirder than that

Sounds like a competitive game tonight would have been nice to have had a feed :rant:

spoiler alert: my guess is Kane will easily be the most hated Jet.......likes to work the refs and he is cocky. As a Jets fan I like him because he is a talented power forward that hits allot and always gives 100% but I would hate him if he was on any the other team.

I look forward to the division rivalry.

First time nothing, he's been screaming that from mountain tops all offseason.

I should've clarified it was the first time during camp. I know he's been a big advocate of that.

Granlund's had a good camp though. Sad if it goes unrewarded, but that's how things go sometimes. They should just try him at wing if they want Coyle at center that bad.

I think they both make the team, you can't be the top prospect, be one of the most impressive players at camp, be good at both the PP and PK as Granlund has been, then get sent down.

They will both be anchors on the 2nd unit PP all year.

There just might not be room for Granlund right now. And I say that noting that he's definitely improved this camp. But if it does come down to which guy stays, it'll be Coyle every time. He's on a whole other level.

They'll make room. Both players can play wing. They both make the team.

Coyle, Granlund, Nino in... Zucker to Des Moines.

Mitchell is going to stay on the 4th line... there's just too much talent ahead of him to get to the 3rd.

coyle on another level is crazy insane tire pumping delusion. Only thing coyle had was size last year. he still doesn't have the skill Granlund has. i will agree that if they choose one or the other it'll be Coyle, but it's not like it's a blow out contest. some people here sound like the friggin Karlsson fanboys.

this wedding is making me angry.

As a Vikings season ticket holder... I'm well aware of when a large contingent of Winnipeg Vikes fans are present... you always get the cup snake going!

4 of the 10 guys in my NFL fantasy league are Vikes season ticket holders.

I'm thinking Mitchell will take the last spot on the 3rd line. He's a great fit there. That leaves space for just two kids, one's Coyle and one is Granlund/Nino/Zucker. With Zucker injured the odds aren't in his favor now especially with both Nino and Granlund playing well. Don't like the thought of sending down either one of them, so I'm glad it's not my call.

Well let's not go that far. ;)

Either way, this is the first preseason where I've personally found it very entertaining watching these kids. They still have a lot of areas for improvement, but at least most of them appear to be progressing. And adding Nino in there is a bonus.

Ballard was good. Steady. And it didn't hurt that he had those 2 assists as well. I'd easily place him in the top 3 tonight behind Suter and Brodin.

Sounds like Yeo was really happy with him too.

Good to hear Ballard's been playing well for you guys. It's a shame AV decided to irrationally lock him in his dog house during his entire time in Vancouver. Great hockey player and an even better person; full of character and great guy in the locker room. Always liked him despite his short comings here. Hope he gets his career back on track with you guys. :)

Excerpt from Russo's blog.

Yeo really liked Keith Ballard’s game again. The left-shot D played right D, and he had two assists and was plus-2. Very valuable that Ballard can do this because if Matt Dumba happens to not be in the top-6 out of camp, Jared Spurgeon is the only right-shot D. Brodin, a leftie, plays right D, too.

“I believe the more [Ballard] continues to get comfortable with our game and the way we’re playing, he’ll just continue to get better,†Yeo said. “He had a real impact. … His mobility is real noticeable.â€
