You can be a speed/skill team and overcome physical play if you have great puck movement and a skilled, mobile back end. I don't think we are as fast as we think we are and we certainly don't have the kind of skill level on defense that is needed.

Theoretically, that is true, but it is much, much harder to go that route vs building a slightly tougher team. Look at the number of teams that compensate a lower skill level by being more physical. you give yourself a greater margin of error, especially in the tighter-checking playoffs.
