All time series record: The Islanders lead the series 36-33-14 with the Islanders having a 3.5 GFPGA while the Oilers are averaging 3.4 GFPGA. Islanders all time @ Edmonton are 12-24-5 with a 2.9 GFPGA the Oilers are averaging 3.7 GFPGA at home VS the Islanders.

The New York Islanders are off to a promising start on their longest road trip of the season but they'll next visit a place where they haven't won in more than a decade.

The Islanders, though, would appear to have one of their best chances to end a four-game skid in Edmonton on Sunday night, given the Oilers' woeful state.

New York (26-11-1) earned a third consecutive win and seventh in nine games Friday, 2-1 over Calgary. John Tavares scored both goals as the Islanders improved to 2-0-0 on their seven-game trek.

"We're confident in our game," said Tavares, who has five goals and two assists in his last six games. "I think we've been good on the road, and I think we've been good at home. In any situation, we just feel comfortable with the way we can play in our group and our belief that we can win any kind of hockey game."

New York will next seek its first win in Edmonton since a 5-2 victory March 13, 2003. They've lost each of their past three games there by one goal and took a 3-2 overtime loss in the most recent visit March 6.

In this visit, the Islanders will get to face an Oilers team that owns the fewest points in the league, is 2-14-8 since Nov. 10 and 2-10-2 in its last 14 home games.

Edmonton (8-22-9) is one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Western Conference (2.10 goals per game) and one of the worst in the league at keeping opponents out of the net, giving up 3.33 goals per contest. It is also owns one of the league's meekest power plays with a 12.8 percent conversion rate and has allowed opponents to score on 23.7 percent of their power plays in 15 contests since the beginning of December.

The Oilers have tried to shake things up with moves over the past week. They acquired Rob Klinkhammer and a 2015 first-round draft pick from Pittsburgh for winger David Perron in the latest one Friday.

They also acquired Derek Roy from Nashville and claimed Matt Fraser off waivers from Boston on Monday. Benoit Pouliot scored the tying goal in Friday's 2-1 shootout loss to Colorado in his return from an 18-game absence due to a broken foot.

"Even though we're struggling, there are positives and we're trying to build off that," Pouliot said. "It's good to be back, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year."

New York, which has claimed two of three overall in the series, has shined on special teams lately. The Islanders have scored five power-play goals in their last 16 chances and have killed off 20 of their past 21 penalties.

Tavares has two goals and two assists in his last two games against Edmonton, both in Long Island.

Edmonton's Taylor Hall has totaled three goals in his past two matchups, including the overtime winner in March.

Hall might face Jaroslav Halak, who is 18-2-0 with a 1.81 goals-against average in his last 20 starts and a winner of seven in a row. Halak is 5-0-0 with a 1.25 GAA in his last six appearances against Edmonton.

Geez the Oilers are bad, I feel bad for the fans, they don't deserve that. With that being said I hope this game settles Johnson down, and we don't take them lightly, come out to play and we will win this one.

Not going to trash the Oilers because we were in the same boat for quite some time. Feel for their fans and the garbage they have to put up with.

Nevertheless, expecting a win tomorrow. Anything else is a calamity.

Isles have 20 ROW

Tomorrow should make 21.

Nothing against the Oil so much as a pending avalanche of hell upon our backup goalie.

I'm still holding the opinion that Johnson can turn things around, but it starts with one mistake-free game. If he can't do that, expect barbarians at the gate.

This should be a winnable game, with no need for overtime. I don't want to get in a shoot out match since in spite of Edmonton's weaknesses, they have skilled players that may be more adept at putting one by a goalie in a shoot out situation, and we want 2 points.

I really think their C depth is worse than their D.

Can't imagine where we'd be without Nielsen, who lets Nelson and Strome come through easily and to counter the abilities Tavares has, or lacks.

EDM will turn it around one day, will start with the drafting of whoever they get soon in the draft but boy do they need the Boychuk type deal.

Also, the youngin's need to step up maturity wise. JT has always had he pro mentality, but how about Okposo? Guy was just tired of the mediocrity and made the switch mentally and physically and it showed on the ice.

Anyway..

Get the win. Don't fall back like we did versus the Sabres.

Need to take this game seriously, it's expected that we should win but I hope the players and coaches are prepared to fight for it.

If there was ever a game I'd feel comfortable giving Halak a night off it would be this one. Take our chances with Johnson. We'll be able to put points on the board.

We are already in first place. We now have a game in hand with the same number of points as the Pens.

No we're not. Montreal has 1 point on us with 1 more game played after tonight. It wasn't possible for us to be the #1 team in the East with the way the schedule worked tonight, because either Pittsburgh or Montreal were getting points.

I would prefer to see Halak in goal Sunday night.

Getting an easy 2 points is more important than Chad Johnson’s confidence.

Plus, there is a back to back coming up this Friday.
I don’t want to see Halak play 2 nights in a row ever again, and I don’t want to see C.J. twice in one week.

Damn, GDT is up early. Assuming Johnson starts, which makes me nervous...I mean yeah, this should be a win, but they shoulda beat the Sabres too
Game is at 9:30 BTW, not 9.

That's like telling your current girlfriend that you miss your old girlfriend's touch. I know you don't mean anything by it, but it is an insult. LAW was awesome, but he's gone...and we are lucky to have MM. End of story. If you or I could do a better job, we should volunteer. I know I am not...

I am sure their fans are not all to upset considering their reward for being the worst team in the league in the draft
