There's a guy in LHV who has a pretty good track record of 5v5 scoring who wouldn't even cost anything. He's even waiver exempt if you don't like what you see. And no, I don't mean Lindblom.

Oshie shot a 23.1% last year. That’s totally not sustainable.

Yep. With that kind of guy, you're really looking to buy low on a short-term deal on a guy coming off of an unsustainable percentage the other way -- a competent Filppula if you will.

I don't get why we should put a hold on other moves until we find this goal scoring winger that we apparently need desperately.
I never said no trades, I just said I wouln't deal for Doughty because I don't believe that he puts us over the top THIS year, and he would costs WAY to much. I don't believe he fixes 5v5 scoring and I don't believe he would "fix" our G position.

So to be clear on the thesis here, what you're suggesting is that we shouldn't pursue moves to make the team significantly better until we find a player who meets your criteria for 5v5 goal scoring? You realize before last season, Simmonds had outscored Oshie in goals at even strength in the previous three seasons combined, no? Oshie's career year last season is largely a function of the team he plays on. Hell, in the three seasons before last year, Brayden Schenn had 42 5v5 goals to Oshie's 45. So it's unclear why you're happy to trade a goal scorer like Schenn but want to have a moratorium on roster-improving moves until we can find a goal scorer like Oshie...
I certainly agree that Oshie's output is a huge function of the team he played on. I also think someone LIKE him, with a skillset we don't currently have, would EXCEL amongst a group of playmakers and grinders. Hartnell took HUGE advantage of his PP1 spot, that was more about pieces around him, but his shot ability gave him an opportunity to excel on the backs of others.

Schenn is gone, because he is basically the SAME player as Wayne Simmonds, but not as good, on a position we already had people, and have more coming, and we got a really good offer. If Schenn had been a real LW option, he's probably still here. If he had the offensive skillset of say JVR, even better, and I don't think he gets dealt even for the offer we got. Hell, I think JVR would get great results with that ROLE as a LW here, ideally, we should have not traded him and got a terrible deal, but half the org apparently hated that guy.

If the beat writers try to push any form of Greg Carey on this team....

Just use the Michael Scott GIF of saying no.

An AHL PP specialist does not belong on the Flyers. He must have a good agent.

Carey did lead the Phantoms in goals scored last season.

He wouldn’t be a bad replacement player for a few games, but wouldn’t last a full season.

He has a hell of a shot as he showed again last night, but he has a slow release and he doesn’t do anything else too well, including skate.

TJ Brennan is an AHL PP specialist (also empty net specialist), and another beat writer suggested we protect him in the damn expansion draft.

Usage plays a big part in that. He gets juicy minutes that prospects would get in other organizations.

They have too many prospects & other veterans who should place higher on the call-up list than him. Prospects like Lindblom, Vorobyev, & NAK would likely be ahead of him than veterans like Read (if he stays down there long term), McDonald, & Knight likely would too.

WTF is with this thread? All the sudden people want to make crazy trades? Everyone relax. We are finally built to be self sufficient for many years. The last thing we need to do is ruin our depth and blow up our salary cap. Maybe we'll make a trade when we are truly ready to make a run. That's still a few years away.

1. Next forward coming up needs to be Lindblom. Put him on the 3rd line with TK and Nolan...and watch other teams have problems.
2. Wiese? Needs to go. No excuses. He's done. Please Lord make it over already.
3. We barely won playing a team with 3 injuries. If we were contenders we would have dominated.(We did a bit late in the third...nice to see.)
4. Agree about D needing to gel. Give it 15 -20 games re-evaluate. Sanheim needs to keep playing. Send Morin down. Trade Manning and bring up another rookie (Morin).
5. Expected to lose....they won. Nicely done! Send a message....beat the crap out of Nashville.

High goal scoring in the AHL but does really nothing else at that level. So of course he could help the Flyers Sam!

Nothing sardonic in that reply. It made me smile if it was intended that way, if not- because I don't know the player, thanks for the info.

Brayden is not here cause Ron got 2 number 1 picks for him period. What do you think would have happened if they called about Simmer with the same offer?

The problem with Martel is he's good enough to deserve a chance, but not good enough for us to make moves to make room for him to have a chance. Especially with the prospect depth we have.

If you don't give him a weal shot, how can you be sure?
