Grimoire should be avoided not because of the taste (thought that's a decent reason, even if there are one or two that are ultimately drinkable), but because of their dubious practices leading to bottling problems, to the point it becomes a health hazard.

And a craft elitist wouldn't even DARE listing Bières du Monde as recommendable stuff, so it's safe to say Seb isn't being an elitist.

(I actually enjoy some BdM offerings)

I'd be curious to have more info on their bottling practices that lead to health hazards. Couldn't find any information about it online.

It was a catch-all word for "sometimes, the bottles explode for no apparent reason".

Captain Lawrence : Barrel select old
6,5% - 4 tickets

Light in color, very dry, it is a sour so it might not be for everyone but it's good... and only 4 tix! Nothing really mind blowing but I would recommend it for anyone who wants to try sours for the first time. Not sure if it was fermented with Belgian yeast, but I would say it is very likely because of how it tastes.

If I ever came across bottles of this I would definitely buy some. Easy drinking.

Captain Lawrence : Hudson valley harvest sour strawberry
7,5% - 5 tickets

Putting strawberries in beers sounds so much like a good idea at first but every homebrewer will tell you how disappointing the results always are. This really isn't much an exception. It is better than other very awful strawberry beers out on the market, and by a large margin, but I don't really find it particularly good. It's another sour beer so that part I can enjoy, but that's about it.

Captain Lawrence : Rosso e Marrone
10% - 6 tickets

I love Flanders red, one of my fav style. If you ever have the chance to drink a bottle of Rodenbach Grand Cru do it, it's delicious. Of course it's another sour, a darker one for those who don't know the style. Prominent taste of grapes and dark fruits.

So my first sip of this one I wasn't really convinced, especially compared to RBC, but it's growing on me. The 10% alcohol is damn hidden, it doesn't feel like it. And the body is balanced which is great.

Yep, I recommend it.

Oshlag : Nano IPA
1,75% - 3 tickets

IIRC, Oshlag is the experimental division of Glutenberg (I might be wrong) and they make very interesting beers. This one is a 1,75% IPA which is really cool! A session session ? Anyways the hops are prominent both in smell and taste but maltier than I would expect at this ABV. The body is extremely thin, almost watery but I don't find it to be much of a problem. Smooth carbonisation as well.

Well done!

Guys don't forget to bring your own glass, they Quebec stands fill it up much more generously.

What do you mean? Like previous year's glasses? I could bring my 2.5 liters boot. Would they fill that generously?

Too cold for me today, I might go tomorrow and for sure Friday around noon till 3pm. Maybe Saturday, if someone needs an escort lol. I avoid the weekend usually.

I'm going on Saturday and I'm also curious to know what bringing your own glass means. GF and I can't wait to go for the first time!

Get there early on Saturday or you'll have the lineups and the crowds from all over the island and the suburbs. That's an advantage of going during the week, not too many people take time off for the festival.

Oshlag : Inca bière vapeur
4% - 4 tickets

I wasn't expecting this at all. With such a name I expected a smokey beer but it's not. I would say it's an American Pale ale? But it's definitely not pale. Also not much body. The head had hints of red which I found I interesting. But overall it's alright, nothing more.

Like any beer glass you have at home.

Try the IPA Expérimentale from L3M. I don't know why I'm telling you this, because it was probably on your shortlist. But it's.... VERY good. It's on the very low end of the IPA bitterness scale though.

Tried it two weeks ago at Alexandraplatz and was really impressed!
BTW Les 3 mousquetaires announced they will bottle an unfiltered IPA in their regular series... very excited to see it in stores.

I know Glutenberg brewed something called Inca Cream Ale a few years ago, and I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't share some similarities.

Oh! I can definitely see it as a hoppy Cream Ale of some sort. Would make sense.

It's crazy how empty the place is this year... must be because of the temperature.

Well... Back in the days, the supply for good beer wasn't exactly the same.

Gatineau was quite empty as well.

Nogne has a lot of good stuff this year and they're surprisingly cheap. Didn't bother with the rest of euro and south America.

As for USA it's the worst offering I've ever seen.

A little tip for those going, don't hesitate to let your sample warm. They tend to be served cooler than intended and it inhibits the smell and taste (which is why the macros market their beers to be drank cold).

Currently trying LTM IPA and it's really good! They used Simcoe, Citra, Chinook and Centennial hops. Can't go wrong with that.

I just had a sip of that one. It was pretty spectacular. But from LTM, I went with the Hopfenweise as a refresher though.

I didn't try a lot of beer because I didn't want to be drunk biking back home but I still managed to taste some pretty good ones.

I was particularly surprised with La Souche. I tried la Tourbiere Sure. It was.. different. But the one with Vin d'orge (can't remember the name) was amazing. So was the porter.

Other ones that stood out was the Norvegian Imperial Rye porter, and the Rogue 7hop IPA.
