[FIELDSET="QUOTES TO NOTE"]

I think this was what we needed. We took hits, we gave hits, we worked hard in the defensive zone, we got pucks in when we needed to.
It was a tough road game. I don’t think it was our best game, you want to have those 6-1 games with all the finesse plays as much as you can.
But that’s not the type of hockey you’re always going to be able to play. It gets tighter and when that happens, you need to dig in. And that’s what we did.
- Mats Zuccarello

I rely on reading the game and on my decisions, not on my size or body.
It’s just one goal here and there that I have to cut down. That has a lot to do with focus, not technique.
Sometimes, I have to remind myself.
- Henrik Lundqvist

I think what you saw is what you’re going to get. We have numbers. We play hard.
I knew that as a team we were going to stand up for each other. I didn’t expect anything less from the Flyers or from us.
- Alain Vigneault

Early lines: 20-21-19; 40-13-73; 36-10-61, 12-86-26. D the same. Raanta in goal. No Lindberg, Clendening

Steve Zipay ‏@stevezipay
Raanta first goalie off ice, some line tweaks. Miller at C and on 2nd PP. See previous tweet.

Games AV picks out Raanta to play are random. Not that I necessarily disagree with him playing tonight but just looking at the schedule and sections of games, some of the ones he's played I haven't expected at all with Monday night v. Pitt being a prime example.

No reason why Miller can't fill in at center the same way Brandon Dubinsky did on multiple occasions.

Glad Pirri is off the pivot and given less defensive responsibilities.

Biggest concern for me with this team continues to be the transition game when the defense is put under pressure. Teams that forecheck hard take away most of our quick attacking ability, a lot of which is due to subpar passing from our blueliners.

Miller and Nash work very, very well together. No idea why Fast is on the first line, but Vesey is on the fourth. I feel like 20-21-19 is still getting praised for their work against Washington in the playoffs two years ago, even though they didn't do much last year.

Happy Brass is back, but LGR

Don't mind Raanta here. Rangers have four games this week, and Lundqvist's on pace for 60-65 starts--his sweet spot at this point in his career.

These lines are terrible. I don't like any of them.

Two things I actually like - Miller should be given a chance at center over Pirri who didn't look comfortable in this position outside of 4th line, and Grabner staying at with Hayes.

Other than that I'd prefer Fast instead of Vesey on the 4th line but no biggie and Zip probably switched wingers sides of 12 and 26 on the 4th.

LGR!

Tons of skilled forward depth.

Fast in the top-6.

Never change, AV

Fast absolutely murders Stepan's offense.

Past two years 5v5:

GF% and GF60

Together: 39.1% and 2.23
Stepan apart: 60% and 3.14

AV, plz

Don't agree with breaking up our two most consistent players in miller and Hayes .

Fast has been playing great two way hockey this year. Don't know what you all are so pissy about, AV is balancing the attack rather than having all the guns on 2 lines.

Not even looking at advanced stats what has Fast done to warrant being in the top 6 as of late?

Nothing. Ever.

Every coach seems to have a fascination with a clear bottom-6 player and "trusting" him to step into the top-6 and not look out of place.

All objective evidence points to a different outlook. There are more skilled players in this lineup that deserve a top-6 role of Jesper Fast. But, humans are creatures of habit and security. AV knows what he's going to get out of Fast next to Stepan (or at least thinks he knows). He doesn't know what he'd get out of Pirri there, or Puempel there.
