SABRES, FLAMES AGREE TO SEVEN-PLAYER TRADE

June 28, 2024

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the team has acquired forward Blake Coleman and defenseman MacKenzie Weegar from the Calgary Flames in exchange for forwards Peyton Krebs, Jiri Kulich, and Viktor Neuchev, defenseman Henri Jokiharju, and a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

As part of the trade, Calgary will retain 38.78% of Coleman’s salary and cap hit ($1.9M AAV).

Coleman (5’ 11”, 199 lbs, 11.28.1991) joins the Sabres following three seasons with the Flames, where he tallied 141 points and 175 penalty minutes in 245 games. Before his time in Calgary, he spent parts of six seasons with the New Jersey Devils and Tampa Bay Lightning, where he won two Stanley Cups. Prior to turning pro, Coleman spent two years in the United States Hockey League and four years with the NCAA’s Miami Redhawks. The Plano, Texas native was drafted in the third round, 75th overall by the Devils in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Weegar (6’ 0”, 206 lbs, 01.07.1994) comes to Buffalo after spending two years in Calgary, where he tallied 79 points and 86 penalty minutes in 163 games. Before being traded to the Flames, Weegar spent five seasons with the Florida Panthers. Prior to turning pro, he spent two seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Nepean, Ontario native was drafted in the seventh round, 206th overall by the Panthers in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

“We are thrilled to add Blake and MacKenzie to our group,” said the Sabres GM. “It became clear to us last season that our lineup was in desperate need of physicality and veteran leadership, and these two men exemplify those qualities. It was a hefty price to pay, but we felt we could afford it given the strength and depth of both our NHL roster and prospect group. We wish Peyton, Henri, Jiri, and Viktor all the best in Calgary.”

The 2024 NHL Entry Draft begins tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN. The Sabres hold the 7th overall selection.

Wondering if theres a team out there that wants a 5th round pick to absorb ~$1M in salary for this upcoming season. PM me.

Found a capable suitor. Announcement from the Oilers coming tomorrow. Probably not mimicking life so it's not about Corey Perry.

...

or is it.

...

it's not.

...

probably.

Looking to move Ryan Donato, Taylor Raddysh, Boris Katchouk and Mackenzie Entwistle if there’s any interest there? Also listening on Reichel, looking for a late first for him

Both teams willing to discuss middle six forward and D additions.

TOR is willing to give Conor Timmins and Ryan Reaves a fresh start elsewhere (Reaves is buried with a $200k cap hit, so I'm not even paying an 8th to move him)

LAK is willing to give a couple of Arthur Kaliyev, Alex Turcotte, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, and Samuel Fagemo a fresh start.

Both teams have most picks and prospects available to make additions.

:flyers Looking to add another pick or two in this draft. Looking to move Laughton (2nd), Hathaway and Poehling (mid-late round), would consider moving Hart, TK or Tippett but it would take more (especially for the latter two).

Calgary and Ottawa have updated signings and rosters on page one

Both teams are actively looking for deals

The Flames are shopping Jonathan Huberdeau. I want to find a new home for him. Willing to take back bad contracts in return. The Flames are also shopping Jacob Markstrom. I am looking for a young NHL ready defenceman in return. Flexible on that ask

The Senators are making Jakob Chychrun available. Not looking for futures. I want pieces that can help today. Top priority is right shot defence and goaltending. In addition the Sens are actively shopping the 31st and 36th overall picks to make the team better today

:coyotes acquire Jack Campbell, Cody Ceci, EDM 1st '25, & EDM 2nd '24.

:cbj acquire EDM 5th '24, EDM 5th '25, & 50% ret. Nick Bjugstad ($1,050,000)

:edmonton acquire Nick Bjugstad (50% ret.) & CBJ 6th '24

The Edmonton Oilers acquired Nick Bjugstad from the Phoenix Coyotes for a second tour of duty. Bjugstad was laundered through the Columbus Blue Jackets and comes with 50% of his remaining contract for the 2024-2025 season.

Burying the lead, the Oilers also send a bevy of draft capital out the door to relieve themselves of Jack Campbell's contract.

The Oilers would like to thank Jack & Cody for their contributions to the community and organization.
