If the Yankees play the Jays in the playoffs would they even start Cole in Game 1? lol. Feels like the Jays win 80% of the time they face him. And it’s usually by scoring 3 or more runs off him too.

At the point in the season it’s about getting on a roll for October. They Jays don’t have to play catch-up to get in, they just need to get on a roll and they’ll be fine.

Ebbs and flows of a season happen but stumbling down the stretch doesn’t usually fare well

Huge series win. Lets get the sweep tomorrow.
Also isn't it awesome seeing Shulman say "Blue Jays have won again" instead of "insert team beats Jays again".
As much as I criticized the team at times, the one that kept you kind of positive is we hadn't played our best baseball yet. I need to see more to say they are but promising signs so far

2021:
April 1 - 5.1IP, 2ER, Yankees lost 2-3 (no decision)
April 12 - 6.0IP, 1ER, Yankees won 3-1 (Cole with W)

Of note June 15th, 2021 was when MLB announced they were cracking down on spider tack.

With Houston, he hardly saw the Jays

2014:

Well this took like an hour

I have top prospect lists for 2016-2029. 16-18 are from John Sickels' Minor League Ball before it appears to have closed up shop. 19 is from Jim Callis from MLB.com. I had 2020 as well but decided against going over it because many of its guys are still in the minors.

2016
1) Gary Sanchez, C
(solid, borderline all-star at best. mostly awful defensively, inconsistent with the bat)
2) Jorge Mateo, SS (was traded with #8 Dustin Fowler and #4 James Kaprielian to Oakland for Sonny Gray. Was later traded to San Diego for PTBNL and then claimed off waivers by Baltimore. Is a replacement-level utility infielder)
3) Aaron Judge, OF (superstar)
4) James Kaprielian, RHP (made it to the bigs with Oakland. Seems to be an acceptable mid-rotation starter with injury risk)
5) Domingo Acevedo, RHP (went to free agency in 2020 and signed with Oakland. seems to be a decent pen arm)
6) Rob Refsnyder, 2B (Was traded to the Jays in 2017 for low-tier prospect Ryan McBroom. Has bounced around the league since then as a replacement-ish utility guy with no bat. Except this year where he's got some gaudy #s with the Red Sox)
7) Wilkerman Garcia, SS (hasn't played in an MLB affiliated system since 2019. Never got above high-A)
8) Dustin Fowler, OF (Has bounced around the last couple years via waivers and releases. Currently a free agent. Looks like he's basically a AAAA guy who can't hit in the bigs)
9) Kyle Holder, SS (Moved to the Rockies this season though I don't know how. Hasn't gotten above AAA, has basically no bat in the minors so not likely he gets any MLB consideration)
10) Ian Clarkin, LHP (moved around without ever making the bigs. Has mostly been awful as a reliever/swingman at AA or AAA.)

2017
1) Gleyber Torres, SS
(full time MLB, teases potential but never seems to put it all together)
2) Clint Frazier, OF (could not find any evidence he existed even though I know he does. Turns out he changed his given name to "Jackson". Was released by NYY and signed for this season with the Cubs. Is a replacement-level shuttle guy)
3) Blake Rutherford, OF (was moved to the White Sox in 2017. Is currently mediocre in AAA)
4) Jorge Mateo, IF
5) Justus Sheffield, LHP
(hyped 1st round pick who the Yankees got with Clint/Jackson Frazier when they traded Andrew Miller. Subsequently traded him to the Mariners for James Paxton. Is a mostly bad starter who can't stay healthy or throw strikes. Appears to be a reliever now)
6) James Kaprielian, RHP
7) Chance Adams, RHP
(19 games of garbage MLB relief and isn't signed to any organization this season)
8) Domingo Acevedo, RHP
9) Albert Abreu, RHP
(middling reliever who's moved 4 times between 3 teams since April (NYY -> Tex -> KC -> NYY) via trade and waivers. And he's in the game now as I type this and just surrendered the Chapman HR)
10) Aaron Judge

2018
1) Gleyber Torres, IF
2) Estevan Florial, OF
(has played sparingly at the MLB level the last couple of years with a strong 11 game sample last year and 6 awful-hitting games this year. Has good AAA numbers this year but is not viewed as a high prospect anymore)
3) Chance Adams, RHP
4) Justus Sheffield, LHP
5) Miguel Andujar, 3B
(broke out big in 2018 but hasn't ever replicated that. Was sent to AAA earlier this season)
6) Albert Abreu, RHP
7) Domingo Acevedo, RHP
8) Freicer Perez, RHP
(Fell off a cliff right as he was named to this top prospect list, pitching 25 garbage innings in 2018, not playing affiliated ball again until 2021, putting up 21 just as bad innings across two low levels that year, and not being retained for this season. Never got above high-A.)
9) Thairo Estrada, IF (Purchased by the Giants from the Yankees before 2021. Looks like a serviceable bench/utility infielder)
10) Dillon Tate, RHP (was the 4th overall draft pick in 2015. Twice traded as a big piece of significant trades (to the Yankees for Carlos Beltran, to the Orioles for Zach Britton. Having a strong 2022 season but has mostly been an inconsistent, pretty decent MLB reliever)

2019
1) Estevan Florial, OF
2) Jonathan Loaisiga, RHP
(had a great 2021 but has mostly been a fungible, replacement-ish reliever in 5 years in pinstripes)
3) Albert Abreu, RHP
4) Deivi Garcia, RHP
(has pitched sparingly over parts of 2 seasons with the Yankees, is currently in AA after seemingly bombing out of a AAA assignment. Considered a good 'stuff' guy with command issues, durability questions, and endurance shortcomings.)
5) Clarke Schmidt, RHP (the Yankees' 2017 1st rounder, he looks like he's firmly in shuttle reliever territory, bouncing between AAA and MLB for the last 3 years)
6) Anthony Seigler, C (It's been 5 years in the Yankee system and he's now a 23 year old repeating high-A. Not a great sign)
7) Everson Pereira, OF (currently in AA and on Fangraphs' list as their #8 prospect, he's considered a future swing-and-miss power corner OF with decent overall skills except his hit tool)
8) Trevor Stephan, RHP (selected by Cleveland as a rule-5 guy in 2020. Appears to be a solid pen arm)
9) Antonio Cabello, OF (the last time he was relevant was last year when the Yankees sent him to Texas for Roughned Odor. He can't even get above A-ball and is actually in the complex league this season because he cannot hit. Like, at all.)
10) Roansy Contreras, RHP (was part of the Jamison Taillon trade. Is currently in the 4/5 starter mold for the Pirates, but is still considered to have upside as a mid-rotation starter or better. Was Pittsburgh's #3 prospect last season before graduating)

Thats mostly kind of "ehh" after Judge. Torres and Sanchez a solid and Andujar has teased while Contreras looks like he might be good for another team. But in that 4-year stretch they had 13 pitchers of which there's 1 good starter (Contreras), 3-6 decent to good relievers depending on how high you set the bar, and a bunch of nothing.

So with the current key players on this roster over the last two years, they’ve gone 5-2 against Cole. Not quite 80%, but actually pretty close lol.

Awful list after Judge. He can walk this year and they don't have much to show from those years.

Before I forget the usage of the bullpen was awesome. Use your best relievers against the best hitters and the weaker relievers against the bottom of the order.

Schneider might not be the long term answer, but his bullpen management is better than Montoyo’s at least and that might be enough for a few extra wins down the stretch here.

It sounds like common sense but even the best managers have trouble figuring this out
