So that leaves your 5.3 mil in Cap space to find their number one and number two centers for the up coming season. Should be an interesting off-season

Hall - #1/2C - Pastrnak
Marsh - #1/2C - DeBrusk
Haula - Coyle - Smith
Frederic - Nosek - Steen
X: Studnicka (RFA)

Grzelcyk - McAvoy
Lindholm - Carlo
Forbort - Clifton
X: Reilly, Zboril

Swayman, Ullmark

UFA's: Bergeron, Lazar, Blidh, Brown

Needs: #1 center, #2 center.

Wants: Size in the top6 to "get inside." More energy and jam from the 4th line. A shoot-first defenseman.

Come on though. We can dump Reilly, Forbort, and Nosek for $8M+. Bury Foligno. That 5 can go to 14 in a hurry and that’s without even moderate surgery

Nichushkin would be a nice add. If we can get him and Bergeron back, I like the look of our lineup. Especially if Studnicka can grow into the 2C role.

Marchand-Bergeron-DeBrusk
Hall-Studnicka-Pastrnak
Frederic-Coyle-Nichushkin
Haula-Nosek-TBD (heavy/physical guy)

Smith moved out for a 3rd or something. Alternatively, keep Smith and move out DeBrusk for a late 1st or 2 seconds.

Ethan Bear might not get tendered a QO. That's an interesting, young RH defenseman. He's only 5'11, but he's tough and was a big scorer in junior. Scored 28 goals one season.

Maybe you could move Carlo for a center and then try to develop Bear next to Lindholm on the second pair.

It's tough for smaller defenders to cut through offensively in the NHL unless they have really elite skating and hands like Makar because size and physical presence are a much bigger factor and they tend to not find the space they need to make things happen. I think Bear's got some talent but I don't see him ever producing anywhere near his junior levels in the big league. But that's not the end of the world. Like you said, he's tough, and he moves the puck reasonably well. Is he good enough in his own end though? I'm not convinced.

But I'm still interested because it is just right that the Bear should play for the Bruins. I wouldn't mind taking a punt on him, for the right price, just for that reason alone!

If Bergeron decides to come back (and I certainly hope he does) then he is THE must sign player for the Bruins. f*** the cost, you don't let the heart & soul (not to mention the only legitimate #1C) of your team walk away for nothing. Then spend whatever is left on your other needs.

IMO all the Bruins off season moves hinge on Bergeron's decision to come back or to retire.

in reality a lot of players need to be moved out and you have to try and become younger and cheaper in the bottom six.

I would offer Bergy 2 years/15 mil (slap in the face but the max we can afford :( )
Try and sign R.Strome for 6 years/36 mil
talk to Van about a debrusk/garland swap (build from there with picks)
Stud signs for 850k 2 years
Lazar for 1.25 for 2 years

Buy out Foligno
Bury Wagner
Trade all of Reilly, Gryz and Coyle for picks and depth pieces
Try to get another 2nd and go 2 2nds for a 1st at draft day, as high into the 1st round as you can get (look to a team like buffalo or Arizona that have multiple firsts)

Give Studnicka 3C and actually let him go for 25ish games to see if he can be an NHL player, slide Haula over if it fails

the number of roster players that would need to be moved out during the offseason to make any of these changes work basically guarantee this wont happen

Marchand - XXXX - XXXX

Hall - Haula - Pastrnak

XXXX - Coyle - XXXX

XXXX - Nosek - XXXX

Steen

XXXX - McAvoy

Lindholm - Carlo

Forbort - Clifton

Zboril

Swayman

Ullmark

Frederic - Needs a change of scenery. Still not an everyday player in the coaching staff's eyes.

Smith - Cut bate now. Awful playoff performer.

Foligno - I doubt they buy him out. Too expensive. Borderline useless at this point

Debrusk - I'm assuming he still wants out.

Lazar - Nice depth player but if he leaves you wouldn't notice.

Blidh - Been a nice run in the organization but good-bye.

Studnicka - Not an NHL player. Likely on waivers in the fall. Seems to have already been leaped by McLaughlin.

Wagner - Back to Providence with you.

Gryz/Reilly- With Zboril extended I'd put money on one of the two being shown the door in the off-season. The other will be back.

Brown - I didn't mind his game. Decent skater for his size. Probably not back though.

Bergeron - The X-Factor. Does he retire?

Fredric, Nosek, Smith and Reilly have to go, get whatever pick(s) are available.

Nosek you can make a case for because he brings PK, FO ability and can move around the line up. But realistically they could/need to develop their young guys into the roster.

I'm not good at making moves and building a roster so I won't make an attempt. They need to find out what Bergeron wants to do before draft and then make some actual hockey trades for the future if he's not coming back. As beneficial as it could be to move Marchand and Pasta I don't think they do either unless they ask. They will most likely beg Bergeron to come back 1 more year and do another retool, hopefully properly.

Their C depth is lacking but at this point just play them for 20-30 games and see what they have. Use every draft pick in the next 2 seasons on centers regardless of their draft ranking.

Arizona has a ton of picks in round 1 (3) and 2 (4) this year. I'd love to see something around JDB and Grzelcyk or Reilly for Crouse and maybe one of their seconds.

Buying out Foligno and trading Grizz should give them enough cap to sign Kadri. Pretty sure Coyle has a limited NTC next season. Smith is probably gone too
