McCarron tough play wasn’t natural. As big as he looked, he was weak as ****. Hit like a pillow.

Tuch seems to have better offensive IQ.

McCarron was a beast on the boards... Tuch seems to be better in open ice

McCarron was never good, no matter what Grant said.

You're right, guys who come in playing a physical game and go PPG in their first 20+ games in the AHL suck.

He was trending really nicely until they called him up early, dicked him around and like DLR, called him back up for 4 minutes of 4th line ice time every time they started finding their offensive confidence at the AHL level again.

I think that the biggest issue that held McCarron back was his skating, he seemed to be struggling to keep up with the pace of the NHL game.

From the day of the draft his NHL comparable was always Brian Boyle. He wasn't some unicorn that was destroyed by the wrath of Lefebvre even though Lefebvre sucked very hard and was a terrible development coach.

Oh the 20 game sample size he scored in the AHL?

Puh-lease.... in all his time in junior, in the AHL, in the NHL, the only time he scored at a rate that projected into a top 6 player was that 20 games... that's it.

We have the full 2 seasons in the NTDP at 17-18 where he couldn't score
The D+1 season, his first in London, he still couldn't score at a level expected out of a first round forward

In his D+2 season, he finally got some points, of course he was playing with Domi and Marner... and he was one of the oldest and biggest players in the league. Then he got traded to Oshawa and despite being on a stacked team (and getting top 6 minutes) was back under a PPG in his time with the Gens.

But yeah, that 20 games... that's when he really showed his promise...

And then after that, he couldn't score again.

I don't like Lefebvre, but no coach was turning this guy who can't skate into a productive NHLer.

It also made no sense to put him at C given his skating wasn't great.

With his size, he should've been a winger focused on forechecking, winning battles on the boards and screening the goalie.

He didn't work out for the Habs and I think it would have been the same for him no matter where he would have been drafted, just not enough speed, late on plays/forecheck.

No. McCaron wasn't good. A few games didn't ruin the guy. He was never going to turn into an NHLer.

You need good skating to be able to forecheck effectively.

Tuch's looked really good in this tournament. He and Bordeleau have been the best two players for either USA squad in the tournament so far, IMO. He's made some nice strides in his development since I last saw him play here with the NTDP.

i've heard Samoskevich has also been one of USA's best players. If we lost game 7 to the leafs, it would have been very interesting to see what MB would have done at the draft, had hoped they would be in on Samoskevich.
