Really surprised the Canucks didn't make a claim on Myers. I know he's an expensive "project", but he's got the potential to be exactly the sort of thing Vancouver is looking for. Hard to see why that wasn't worth at least giving it a try at this point.
13'1" of Myers' on that team

Not a fan that waivers now resolve at 2pm, but the trade deadline is still 3pm.

Tight crunch for teams looking for those last few dollars to squeeze, or waiting to see what sort of depth moves they need to make

Those teams should have out guys on waivers before if that's the case.

Or it's strategically done so other teams don't have time to react accordingly.

So are waivers no longer allowed at this time of year?

Or no nhl team has waived anyone for a while?
Much less need. No roster limit post TDL. And AHL rosters are set for playoffs.
But still an option if needed. A guy could be put on waivers to assign to AHL to play, or to clear Cap space, if a Cap-tight team activates a injured player.

Most players cannot be assigned to the AHL now that the trade deadline has passed. Only three classes of players can be returned to the AHL
- Players who were recalled after the deadline;
- Players were injured at the deadline (with less then 25% of the season on the active roster);
- Players who were on emergency recall before or after the deadline

Adding to my previous post: teams can still Waive players after the trade deadline.

However any Player claimed on Waivers after the deadline is ineligible to play in the NHL for the rest of the regular season and playoffs.

Rangers should claim him. Hartford plays Bridgeport tomorrow. Both teams are fighting for the last playoff spot in the Atlantic.
He cannot go to minors if claimed (that is why Islanders waived him to get him to Bridgeport). The Rangers claim him and he has to stay with the big club.

He was on an emergency recall.

He was either up for 30 days or played in more than 10 games. I see he played in 11, that's why he had to be waived back down.

13.5 Waiver Expiration. The rights granted under this Article to Loan a Player(s) who is otherwise required to clear Regular Waivers to a minor league club expire for any Player(s) who, after clearing Regular Waivers:

(i) is not Loaned to a minor league club, or is Recalled from a minor league club (except on emergency Recall) and remains on an NHL roster for thirty (30) days (cumulative) or plays ten (10) NHL Games (cumulative),

or

(ii) is Recalled from a minor league club on emergency Recall and plays in ten (10) NHL Games (cumulative) while on emergency Recall. For purposes of clarity, games played while on regular Recall shall not count towards the ten (10) NHL Games in this subsection (ii).

The CapFriendly tweet confuses the timeline because it makes it appear as though the emergency loan was yesterday instead of on 3/27.

Actually he was sent back to Bridgeport on 3/30 and then recalled on another emergency loan on 3/31 to further complicate matters.

Not sure why he needed waivers if he was up on an emergency loan.

He played more then 10 games on Emergency Recall after clearing Waivers earlier in the season. Meaning he had to clear waivers to be sent to the AHL again.

The Islanders could have simply chosen to move Hutton to the regular roster for the rest of the regular season. They had the cap space and hadn’t used any of their 4 post deadline recalls.

Only logical reason for the Isles waiving Hutton was to keep him eligible to returned to the AHL for the end of their season and playoff run if the team decides to do so.
