With the 2019 draft and development camp done and finished, what do you think the Caps prospect rankings should be this year? Part of an ongoing series.

Admittedly, I'm not familiar with a lot of them, so it'll be interesting to read what you guys think.

I took this initial list from another site, so feel free to request an add of another prospect!

The requirement is U25, and less than 25 NHL games played.

Note: I'll start the next prospect ranking thread the next day if the polling isn't close. If two or more prospects are within 10 votes of each other, I'll leave that thread out for the additional day.

Beck is getting my vote here. A prospect can also mean a great NHL penalty killer, physical player, strong skater, with a little offensive potential. Those type of players don't come along everyday either.

This is where it gets interesting. Had to go with Snavely after his impressive string of games at the AHL level. Was real disappointed he had to go back to Yale during the Charlotte series. Expecting a solid year for him

I like Sniveley’s upside. I just wanted to see a bit more of him first.

How do you feel about Pilon? It seems like he has been trending in the right direction.

Loved Pilon’s game last year in the CC playoffs. Stepped up big time in the Charlotte series when Sgarbossa went down with an injury. High compete level and decent in the dot. Needs to be a little bit of a jump production wise this year but I personally think he has it in him to elevate his game. Another one that’s expected to step up and have an impressive season in Hershey this year

Yeah, it seemed from the coach’s commentary that he needed some time to adapt his game and, once he did, it started to come around and he saw his production increase a bit the second half of the season. I’m looking forward to seeing how he is able to build on that.

Maybe he and Sniveley will get some time together this season. That could be a nice combo.

Agreed. He also has a strong track record offensively after leading Yale in scoring all four years (including by significant margins the past two seasons).

AJF continues to be massively overrated by Caps fans. Really, REALLY don't get it. Hasn't shown anything special except straight line speed. So what?

Malenstyn and Pilon are infinitely more interesting prospects, and all of them are probably 4th like guys on a good team at best.

I vote Malenstyn because he's one of my favorite dark horse Caps prospects. He can skate, he hits like a very good NHLer already, and he PKs very well.

Axel has 3 things that help him. A lot
-Name (it’s cool, and he sounds like an NHL’er)
-Hair (guy that looks like that has to make it?)
-Speed (modern game mystique)

How can he fail???

Not sure why AJF is getting voted here, I guess its because he might make the team this year. His ceiling is really low and he doesn't bring a whole lot to the table other than being fast. Geisser, Florchuk, Pilon, and Malenstyn are all better.

It’s like he’s the only prospect with good hair. Samsonov has this great Beatles look and Leason is hair twins with Jean Beliveau. High quality flow in the system.

I don't understand the love affair with AJF either. He had a decent WJC last year and then bailed on Hershey this year after struggling there (as was his right) and then really struggled back home. He had 1 goal in 36 games with Djurgårdens IF before finally coming alive in the playoffs. He's got a long, long way to go.

Every prospect vote thread going forward (we do like 20, right??) now needs to see his mug in it.

Now that we are in the weeds here with the prospects, as it’s literally “throw the deck of cards into the wind and see what comes up”, we might as well get to see good hair for the next 12 threads, amirite????

Why wait to see it? I mean honestly....who really cares who is better by a tick, smidge, tad, or a HAIR (LOL).....it’s all relatively equal, isn’t it? So let’s see THE Hair and we are rocking and rolling.

1) Has had really good playoffs in SHL (0.67 ppg)
2) Good showing in WJC (0.57 ppg)
3) Speed and PK ability

I would say there's a good chance he turns into a solid 3rd line forward and PK specialist. Anyone else that is left that has a higher potential upside is going to be a much bigger longshot to get there...

Malenstyn here is the right choice. There's some guys with higher ceiling for sure but I feel like after watching him a little bit when he was Calgary and then his full first pro season last year he's got NHLer written all over him. Probably his peak would be a really good 4th liner, top PK pairing guy and leader but that's taking nothing away. His type of play is always needed... I mean look what we did in the off-season?
