Spring training is under way!

Yup, good to see Alfaro take the O's deep for grand slam.

I didn't like Gabe Kappler, I'm starting to not like some of his decisions.

Eflin top 2 with 2 outs runners on 1st and 2nd with 36 pitches, takes his starter out for a guy wearing number 92 with no name and he gives up a run. I get it it's spring training, but I didn't like the fact that he showed no trust in his starter to get the job done.

He basically had eflin on a pitch count, I'm like 36 is the pitch count, I would have at least let eflin finish the inning. I'll bet you 1 of his analytic guys told him to pull eflin.

I hope they don't follow the moneyball theory, at the end of the day the manager needs to show confidence in his starters and follow a gut feeling that he will get it done. Especially top 2.

They want to carry 8man bullpen. Going to be taxing. They can't rely on numbers, they still need talent and guys who can pitch 7 or 8 innings and every now an then a complete game.

This isn't a thing in ST

Who cares if he took out a pitcher coming off an injury in the first week of spring training after 36 pitches.

well your right and normally i wouldnt care especially with it being ST. As I was watching it live. He gets out number 2 and then is taken out of the game. I just didn't like it. weather he pitches 36 or 40 something to get 1 more out wouldnt have made a difference.

The first start in spring training you err on the side of caution.
Geez, that's just common sense, you don't hurt a young pitcher in a meaningless game.

I get all that, all's I'm saying is he showed no sign of tiring down, as said it was Top 2 he should be able to get thru 2 innings even in spring training

Injuries can happen at any time, and especially with a pitcher they don't have to be visibly exhausted to be at risk of hurting themselves. I get what you're saying, but I'd much rather err on the side of caution in ST than push somebody needlessly in a game that means absolutely nothing beyond evaluating talent.

If they stand pat and don't make any moves I expect them to be a much better team then last year, but at the same time only 2 teams finished lower then the phils so clearly there's a lot of work to be done. At least they should be a more exciting team to watch and if they get lucky and a few of their young arms show something/bounce back like Eflin, VV, Eickhoff, etc... that could go a long way as I'd like to see them get close to being a .500 ball club. Going to be really interesting to see if they can get Franco going as well.

I like that he's focusing on training with Santana. Would be cool to see Franco fit in with a solid season, but I'm tempering expectations

yea I saw that and hope it works out as I've always like Franco but he's got to be a lot better.

Was reading that Cozens is up to 270 and looks like he should be on the eagles then the phillies. Going to be really interesting if he can get on track, was never a big fan but that power is sick.

Heard that Kapler has been talking/working with Roman Quinn a good bit as well, always liked him if he can stay healthy which is a big if.

Phillies vs. Blue Jays | 02/28/18

Phillies loose 7-1 Velasquez gives up 3 , overall our starters are not looking sharp but its still early in Spring. However still would like to see better pitching.

Kingery another HR for phillies. I think he is ready.

Also what do they do with Tommy Joseph, his bat has been pretty good and they don't know where to put him.

He's been fielding balls at 3b and LF
