I'm calling it right now, we're picking Bode Wilde.

But really in our current state, we're only one Tanev injury away from disaster. All falls on the lottery balls then.

Another guy to keep an eye on is his teammate, Oliver Wahlstrom, reminds me a little bit of Puljujarvi, or a right shot Casey Mittelstadt, very skilled player, one of those dangerous 1-on-1 guys who can penetrate into scoring areas with speed and stickhandling. Can also rip the puck, if anyone was wondering haha.

It's early but here are some guys that have caught my eye so far...

Zadina
Boqvist
Smith
Wahlstrom
McBain
Wilde
Bouchard

I'm a little bummed how weak sauce the C selections are looking but I think the rumors are true...it's a good draft for defencemen.

A little controversial around here but anybody seen Riley Sutter yet?

Check out Alexander Peresunko if ya haven't.

Obviously early, but holy smokes we might be in over our heads. Detroit, Ari, and a handful of others are gonna be stiff comp.

Oops, meant for tank thread

I think maybe straight line power/speed is better but coordination-wise, its like his mind is on another page from his feet. Sort of falls a lot as a result. I don't see the same vision as Matt's, some of the plays Matt did in London were incredibly smart/nifty, haven't seen the same creativity or vision or passing ability from Brady. Board play/motor yes, maybe even better than Matt's.

Yeah, caught my eye at the U18s as well. Should definitely be a heavy favorite for the top 5.

At the U 18s, i was also pretty impressed with Isac Lundestrom, should be higher than his average ranking. Reminds me of a Landeskog-type.

And damn, whats wrong with the site? It took me forever to write this out due to the input lag.

Just starting to delve into this years prospects myself, and Lundestrom is a player that immediately stuck out to me. His progression, outside of his actual traits/abilities is highly impressive.

Kotkaniemi looks amazing today. Have him 2nd on my list right now, behind Dahlin. Crazy how he isn't at least top 10 on every scouting list out there.

Can't understand why his ranks are as low down as in the 20's. He's still just 17 but already play big minutes in 1st and 2nd lines (today's game bumped up to 1st), and is heavily relied on in both on PP and BP, which is extremely rare at that age in SHL. I'd say he's already the best center in the team except in PP.

Maybe not the most flashy guy with slick moves, so not the #1 playmaker in PP, but highly intelligent, a good skater, incredibly sturdy and a decent shot. He's should become an excellent allrounder in the future, with the definite potential of a Kopitar, Bergeron or O'Reilly. Speaking of Kopitar, Lundestrom so far has a better season in both points and +/- than him at the same age and league. Same compared with William Nylander, and he didn't really do faceoffs or boxplay at all at that age.

Ryan Merkley has been super inconsistent.
He just gets huge chunk of points in certain games, and he went pointless in 6 games. But he is still PPG pace.
He is also consistently minus in the Plus/minus category.

I'd way rather Boqvist, Hughes, Wilde, McIsaac, etc

Kotkaniemi and Hollander both look like solid centers.

Veleno looks kind of bust'ish

Hi Canucks fans,

While it appears your team is on track for success this season, you may want to consider having a look at some of the draft's top prospects in case your path changes course. One such player is Andrei Svechnikov.

ANDREI SVECHNIKOV: FIVE-GAME SCOUTING PACK (2017-18 OHL SEASON)

Andrei Svechnikov is a phenom whose name has been known for years among those who have paid attention to the future of Russian hockey. Andrei, the younger brother of the Detroit Red Wings' Evgeny Svechnikov, is regarded as a very high-level prospect and perhaps the most legitimate challenger to Rasmus Dahlin for the first-overall draft position in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Svechnikov is a 6'2'', 187 lbs, rangy winger with quick puck-handling skills, an impressive straight-line burst of speed, and most importantly, a high-level ability to process the game with his mind. He possesses a heavy shot and can also dish precise passes to his teammates. Although he has the capability to score goals and has started his draft season with 10 goals and only 4 assists in 10 games with the Barrie Colts of the OHL, Svechnikov is not so much a pure goal-scorer as he is a poised and intelligent playmaker with goal-scoring abilities. He is always involved with the play, positioning himself well to forecheck and backcheck in an effective manner; he knows where to be to keep a play alive and is an active skater in all three zones. He also uses a rather lengthy stick, giving him the reach to protect the puck well and shield the puck while generating offense. His use of quick bursts and his long reach allow him to pressure the opponent and force opposition turnovers. He is very controlled on his edges and strong on his skates; this balance and strength give him an advantage along the boards, around the net, and while he skates up the ice with the puck on his stick. He is one of the most polished players of his draft class, responsible and smart at both ends of the ice.

Svechnikov has been, and currently is, a consensus Top 2-ranked prospect in this upcoming draft.

Rankings so far:

Dobber Prospects (Oct. 4): #2
Hockey Prospect (Sept. 27): #2
Corey Pronman (Sept. 26): #2
Bob McKenzie (Sept. 13): #2
NACS (Sept. 11): #2
Craig Button (Sept. 5): #3
Future Considerations (Sept. Edition): #2
The Draft Analyst (Sept. 5): #1

He currently plays for the Barrie Colts of the OHL and is in his rookie season with the team. The Colts selected him first overall in the 2017 CHL Import Draft. He played last season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL, where as a 16-year-old he finished sixth in league scoring with 29 goals, 29 assists, 58 points in 48 games.

Andrei Svechnikov Selected First Overall by Barrie Colts in 2017 CHL Import Draft

Barrie, ON – The Barrie Colts have announced that 17-year-old Russian forward Andrei Svechnikov of the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks is the first overall pick in the 2017 CHL Import Draft.
The announcement was made at a news conference held today in Barrie where Svechnikov was introduced to local media.

“The opportunity to have the first selection in the CHL Import Draft is especially exciting for us,” Colts GM Jason Ford said. “When you happen to be in the position to acquire a player of the caliber of Andrei, that changes the caliber of our whole team. We’re thrilled that Andrei chose to come to the OHL and the Barrie Colts. He will make a big impact this year”, added Ford.

“Andrei is a very skilled hockey player. He’s a natural goal scorer and we’re fortunate to have player like that joining the team. He’s one of those players that make his teammates on the ice better. He fits perfectly into the role we need and expect from him,” said Colts Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk. “He’s eligible for the 2018 NHL draft and from everything we’ve heard and know about him, I think he’ll be picked early,” he added.
“Our fans will be excited to have a player of this caliber joining the team that they come to watch every week. It will be a great year to be a Barrie Colts fan. Our fans have been lucky to have watched players Aaron Ekblad, Mark Scheifele, Brian Little, Tanner Pearson and Andrei is another player of that caliber,” added Assistant Coach Todd Miller.

Born March 26, 2000, Svechnikov, a 6.2’, 187 lb left shot winger, is eligible for the 2018 NHL Draft. He finished the 2016-17 USHL season with 58 points in 48 games. He also played for Russia in the IIHF World Under-18 Championship putting up four goals and five assists in seven games helping Russia win Bronze. His hometown is Barnaul, Russia, and is the younger brother of former Cape Breton Screaming Eagle Evgeny Svechnikov, a Detroit Red Wings prospect who captured a Calder Cup with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins this season.

“I am extremely excited and honoured to be chosen first overall in the CHL Import Draft,” Svechnikov said. “And I am very excited to be coming to the OHL and the Barrie Colts. I want to thank the Barrie Colts ownership, management team and scouting staff for choosing me. I’m looking forward to moving to Barrie, meeting my new teammates and being part of a championship team,” he added.

...
This season so far, he has played played on a line with center Alexei Lipanov as his center and numerous other players on his right wing.

During the week of October 15, 2017, he was diagnosed with a hand injury and received surgery to repair it on October 24, 2017. The recovery period is estimated to be approximately six to eight weeks.

This five-game scouting pack features every shift from five of Svechnikov's performances from the first month of the 2017-18 OHL season.

The games featured (and corresponding time stamps) are:

(0:18) 2017-09-30: Barrie Colts vs Hamilton Bulldogs
(23:27) 2017-10-05: Barrie Colts vs North Bay Battalion
(50:45) 2017-10-06: Barrie Colts @ Sarnia Sting

Merkley and McIassc two d-men I would stay away from.

Watch out for Jet Woo. Playing against other teams top lines and is excellent defensively all the while putting up a PPG so far. A physical player as well who loves those open ice hits.

Great vid on Lundestrom by Feebster.

I liked what I saw when he played Vaxjo. Strong, powerful build, with nice skating and hands. Had a gorgeous snipe in the game.

If you can give your thoughts on Jacob Olofsson that would be great as well. Really like him as a player.

This draft has a lot of nice Swedish talent.

What don't you like about McIsaac? Haven't seen too many people with a strong opinion on him.

Left a sour taste after his performance at the Hlinka. Questionable defensive reads, might have IQ issues.

I just don't see anything great about his game. One of those decent at everything but elite at nothing d-men. His skating, shot, or passing doesn't really "wow" me. have him in the 20 overall range.
