Pick the best player available. Please. We just went through this a few years ago when everyone ruled out Provorov and Werenski because we "needed a forward." Given how deep this draft is at defense, it's hard to imagine that the best player available isn't a defenseman.

Well let's close the book on the kid... Zharkenby has seen McLeod play the same amount as anyone else on this board and the conclusion is a no brainer, he's busting.

Maybe we can recoup another 5th round pick for him in order to draft Rykov's sister.

Always go BPA....no matter what. You acquire the best talent/assets you can and sort it out later.

Do people actually want to talk about 2018 draft prospects here or should we lock this till the offseason? There are other threads to debate Zacha, McLeod, etc. And PM's to rip each other off the board.

I'd lock this Draft thread until either the playoffs are over OR the Devils are mathematically eliminated".

It would be a dumb thing to do. Some of us like talking about prospects but when a thread gets derailed by posters who bring up all the "bust" we've been picking in the couple of years and how great Rykov will be on the Rags, it's no wonder this thread is going down the dumpster.

We're approaching the CHL playoffs as well and talking about potential picks should be permitted.

    No it wouldn't.

Because the time to talk about the draft is during the OFFSEASON.

Not NOW where the Devils are fighting for their playoff lives here.

And CHL playoffs? Sorry but I missed the part where the title of this thread is NHL Draft PLUS CHL Playoffs. :skeptic:

Oh come on we can talk about players anytime. We don't need someone to tell us that we can't talk about 2018 draft eligible players, is just dumb and we have never done that. Sure they are not as active but we don't need to be lockng s**** down

I do really hope we stay away from players like McLeod, Veleno, and other similar centers this draft. Seems like obviously the D is better and the wingers are much better this year for where we may be drafting at.

McIsaac seems like the most realistic option if we're drafting in the middle of the pack. Wilde might be a option too but I can see him going in the early teen's.

I'm really hoping if the devils miss out on one of the better d man they want that they will draft dominik bokk. He's a speedy right hand shot winger with a great shot. Pretty much exactly what we need for a forward. Could project to be a top line winger and may be available anywhere from 12ish to 25ish right now.

Low key don’t care who BPA is. The org can change so much in a season that we need to just get BPA and move on. Plus, any dman we draft won’t be ready for probably 2 years and won’t be able to fill the need realistically for 3-4.

Plus we need a solution now, bringing in a good LD via trade plus the guys we have developing is likely going to the strategy.

I’d be hard pressed to think we draft a dman just because we need one. If he’s BPA, sure, but no way we draft for need.

With Walsh, Davies, Chainey, Hellickson, White, Jacobs etc we do have #'s but we need higher end guys.

I wouldn't reach, but when it's close I think we have to go D.

I'd also put bonus points for RW's where'd I'd lean away from LW's.

There was awhiles there where Chainey had the point lead over McIsaac, but Chainey cooled off while McIsaac performed better later in the season. Would like to see the splits, but for the year McIsaac is 8-35-43 in 63.

Chainey at 7-30-37, as a 6th rounder, and a very young one at that, even being in the conversation with a 1st rounder is encouraging.

Scheifele. Which is funny given he was considered a reach at 7 back then
