SABRES ACQUIRE JAMES VAN RIEMSDYK, SIGN HIM TO 5-YEAR EXTENSION

DALLAS, TX - The Buffalo Sabres announced Friday that the team has acquired forward James van Riemsdyk from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The team then announced that they signed van Riemsdyk to a 5-year contract worth an Average Annual Value (AAV) of $6,000,000.

van Riemsdyk (5/4/89, 6' 3", 209 lbs) has played in 610 NHL games with both Toronto and Philadelphia dating back to the 2009-10 season, tallying 390 points. The Middletown Township, New Jersey native was drafted 2nd overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Flyers.

Sabres GM Jason Botterill had this to say regarding the trade: "We are excited to bring in a quality top-six winger in James. He brings solid goalscoring ability to our lineup and will slot in well next to one of our centers. We're glad he agreed to an extension that will keep him in Buffalo for a long time."

The 2018 NHL Entry Draft continues this weekend from the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
