I can't say it enough, I am very excited for both Maximov and Safin as NHL prospects. Chia really has done a superb job from top to bottom of this organization.

I've recently fallen out of love with Chiarelli because of how much it seems like he overpaid Leon/McDavid. Plus I feel Yama and Benson were to high risk high reward type picks. Yama with his first NHL game far ahead of expectation other prospects looking good, and McDavid/Leon looking worth 2X their salary in game one... Certainly makes me rethink my positions. Only game one but wow does Chiarelli look good at this exact moment.

Hope he continues to look this good. The years ahead will be tougher for him.

Berglund has 4 points in 6 games in the SHL thus far. Swedish right hand shooting D with offense... *whistles*

Wont happen, but imagine a top 4 of:

Klefbom-Larsson
Lagesson-Berglund

Keep a sharp eye on William Lagesson as well... he's playing top pairing minutes for Djurgardens and looking pretty damn solid doing it.

He's never going to be a big points guy, but he has Swedish Jason Smith written all over him.

Was just gonna mention Berglund. Definitely a promising start to the season for him. It's not easy to score points in SHL, even less so for defensemen, so what he's doing (numbers-wise) is impressive. Definitely a dark horse to be an impact player in the NHL. I hope he comes over next year. A lot more excited/curious about him than Paigin.

Paigin had a good rookie year in the KHL, faced injury and has been underwhelming since

A couple of games tonight in the OHL.

Guelph at Niagara (Kirill Maksimov) at 5 PM

Flint at Peterborough (Dylan Wells) @ 5:05 PM
Listen on 90.5 CJMB Peterborough or watch on OHL Live

Kirill Maksimov had a rough night, with no points, 3 shots, a major for a slew foot midway through the third and was -4 as the Icedogs get thumped 5-2 by the Sudbury Wolves (my mistake).

Dylan Wells came up big, stopping 46 of 47 shots and was named the first star in Peterborough's 3-1 win over Flint.

This maybe true, but after seeing Rundblad flop I must say that unless the player is a can't miss prospect I'd pump the brakes on their play until we see them in NA.

Haven't seen enough of Berglund to say that he isn't Rundblad, although I heavily doubt it. Rundblad was a highly flawed and overrated prospect. I actually had a bet with a friend of mine who was a season ticket holder of Skellefteå that Rundblad would never become a full-time NHLer. This was back in his draft year or post-draft year, somewhere around there.

Well this could be pretty much be said about any prospect in any Euro league (or even AHL). There will always be an example of a prospect putting up big points in a pro league, then flopping in the NHL. It is still appropriate to get exicted when a prospect is doing well statisictally in another pro league, because more often than not, prospects who do good in a pro league transition better to the NHL than prospects who do not

Runblad is a valid example, although people were projecting him as a star and #1D. I think with Berglund we can all agree hes a long shot, but him doing well in SHL gives hope for him to even just make the NHL in some regard

I like what I'm hearing about him and liked the pick when it was made but while it's promising, I can't but help to think of Rundblad when people point to stats for SHL D.

True but I find it even more critical for European players. The fact that there are so many Swedish D playing t such a high level in recent years gives me hope that he could amount to something. The fact that he has a good shot and is a RHD makes me hope even more that he pans out.
