Bouwmeester suffered the hip injury Dec. 10 vs. Buffalo. He had the option of surgery or injection and keep playing. He decide to put off surgery until after the season but re-injured it Saturday in Dallas. He’ll now undergo surgery and be out 4-6 months.
You can forget about him retiring. He has a contract paying him $5.4m next season, retiring would see him giving that up. Not happening. What are the cap implications between retiring early and LTIR? Or can he retire early at all or does retirement only count for injury and unable to play thus going on LTIR?
I assume, ofc there is change Schmaltz getting icetime noting he has played decently what I recall.Has it been reported that Butler is called up? Not Walman? Binghampton isn't going to the playoffs. Give Walman a shot. Let's see what he can do. Maybe he forces DA to rid the Blues of both Gunnarsson and Bouwmeester?

If we are talking about his career being over and spending the last year on LTIR, it's a bit early to be thinking about that. If that did end up happening, it just means we can exceed the cap by $5.4m.
If his contract is insured, which might not be the case, then the only issue is that we'll have problems with bonus payments to young players potentially carrying over to the 19/20 season.
If his contract isn't insured, our budget is going to be seriously screwed up by missing the playoffs and paying $5.4m to a player who can't play.
Jeremy Rutherford said:Other injury updates: Army said no timetable on Edmundson, who is skating today ... Soshnikov has a neck injury and Blais (San Antonio) also has a neck injury. Sanford (San Antonio) is back in the Rampage lineup. #stlblues
not trying to jump down your throat here but do any of us actually know the team budget? You can forget about him retiring. He has a contract paying him $5.4m next season, retiring would see him giving that up. Not happening.

We don't, but we can make reasonable guesses of what is going to be difficult.not trying to jump down your throat here but do any of us actually know the team budget?
Wouldn't any team trading for Bouwmeester ask for his medical records in advance? And if they saw that he would likely need hip surgery, why on earth would they give up assets to acquire him? Trades involving injured players typically require a pending physical before being completed.I think this was huge missed opportunity to get rid of Jbo if he really was semi-injured December 10th 2017. Army shot himself in the foot not dealing with Jbo at TDL and there is no change him getting out of team without buyout.

Yes, any injuries have to be disclosed before a trade.Wouldn't any team trading for Bouwmeester ask for his medical records in advance? I understand that part but we dont know how Stillman views this. Boumeester is most likely gone after next year regardless, and was going to be pushed down the lineup anyways. The only issue I can see is if it hampers the team from aquiring a certian somebody in FA.We don't, but we can make reasonable guesses of what is going to be difficult.
We had to make the Conference Finals for the team to make a profit, and that was when the cap was $71.4m. The cap is now $75m and it looks like we're missing the playoffs. The team is going to be in the red this year.
The cap is going to be around $80m next season. In the scenario mentioned, an uninsured $5.4m player on LTIR, then that means the budget is jumping from $75m this season to $85m+ next season. We might still be a cap team in that scenario, but it certainly wouldn't be easy to absorb.
Anyway, it's pretty much a moot point. This isn't going to be a career ending injury to Bouwmeester. He'll have had a scan in December and the doctors will have told him that it won't get any worse by continuing to play, it just won't get any better. The only question is how effective he'll be next season, which can't be any worse than over the past couple of months.
