Canada was third at the 500 and then finished eighth

I honestly don't understand how these European nations with a fraction of the canoeing/kayaking culture can manage to routinely beat Canadians in these events. The whole formation of the bloody country was in large part due to the importance of canoes and kayaks, the use of them by explorers and fur traders (voyageurs), and they are a major part of Canadian national identity.

Our athletes should be absolutely cleaning up in all of the water disciplines.
