Are we sure it just got interesting? :)

No disrespect to Brodeur, I'm sure he'll be a capable goalie at the CIS level. But, other than his last name, is he really that much of a special addition? It's likely he'd have been undrafted in the NHL if not for his lineage, and he played only 62 QMJHL games before heading for tier II out west.

Again, that's a totally viable path and pedigree for a CIS goaltender, but I'm not sure this changes UOttawa's prospects in year one - they'll still likely be in tough to reach a half-dozen wins.

I think all Anthony needs is consistency, he's certainly shown it more in his time at the Penticton Vees. Unless the competition at the CIS is tougher than Tier II he should be ok.

CIS Hockey is much, much tougher than Tier II. The majority of players come from Major Junior, some have ECHL / AHL experience, and almost all of them are older than Junior age.

That's not to say that Brodeur won't be a capable CIS goalie, but success in Tier II is far from a strong enough indication.

While I do not have twitter, I check Finder24's on here fairly regularly as he has some good scoops on CIS recruiting.

For those that don't here is his twitter page:
https://twitter.com/Finder_24/with_replies

He has also created a blog that includes a list of ongoing commitments:
http://cishockey.weebly.com/recruit-list.html

A few more posted since last update:

F - Cole Porter (La Ronge, SJHL) - Laurier
D - Chad Bauman (Caledonia, GOJHL) - Windsor
G - Jackson Whistle (Kelowna, WHL) - Alberta
F - Cole Linakar (Kelowna, WHL) - Alberta
F - Dylan Anderson (Acadia, AUS) - Queens
F - Luke Edwards (Niagara, NCAA) - Queens
F - Alex Sills (Quebec, QMJHL) - McGill
D - Dexter Weber (Charlottetown, QMJHL) - Brock
F - Andrew Fritsch (STU, AUS) - Laurier
F - Nathan Hudgins (Stouffville, OJHL) - Toronto

Also add:
G - Kris Joyce (La Ronge, SJHL) - Windsor

Per Finder24's twitter today, Dexter Weber was believed to be going to Laurier prior to committing to Brock. Laurier needs at least 1 more solid defenceman, and Weber would have been a great fit. A bit dissapointing, given he is from Kitchener, and his program of choice (business) is likely Laurier's flagship program (especially with its recent $103M business building nearing completion). That being said, the Fritsh announcement was unexpected. Looking forward to seeing how he does in a Laurier uniform.

At the Rink
Stephen Johnson is Gardener's nephew. Rumor has it that Gards wanted him to Redshirt at UNB for this season.

Unconfirmed: Conor McGlynn, Kingston (OHL) to SMU.

Pseudo-recruiting news out of Waterloo: graduating D-man Cam Wind will return for another season with the Warriors.

Wind is a really unique case, primarily because of his academic achievements. He took 11 credits via Distance Ed at Guelph while he was playing with Brampton of the OHL, then went to SMU where he finished his remaining undergrad credits in two years - including a stretch of 12 months in which he earned 17 credits (for reference, a full course-load in a standard 4-month term is 5 credits).

After graduating SMU, he did his masters at uWaterloo in Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology last season. He's now finished that degree too, and will be enrolling in various courses to fill in gaps in his resume while playing one more year at Waterloo.

Does Ottawa have any of their own players returning from 2 years ago?
