Gettinger scored tonight. He has three goals in his past five games, which is a good sign considering he had just one in his first seven. Hopefully he's picking it up. Across the ice, Sean Day had two assists, giving him eight points in eight games (4G/4A) on the year overall. He was the game's third star.

Gabriel Fontaine had one goal, two assists and was the game's second star. Great start for him so far--five goals, four assists in six games.

Huska was the first star as UConn stole one from Notre Dame. Huska stopped 47 of 49 shots. UConn was outshot 49-25 and won behind Huska's stellar start.

This is really encouraging for a kid who is supposed to be a defensive specialist. He has 3 PPG already in 6 games after having only 4 in 63 games last year. It may be that he's just getting more PP time, but still a good sign.

His shooting percentage is really high right now (27.8%) but he's getting 3 shots per game, which is more than last year (about 2.1 per game).

Hopefully he can keep it up.

Hank = King
Shesty = Tsar

Yeah he's really well thought of. He can probably play another 2 years in Russia and dominate over there.

Other teams have been asking for Shesty in trades since 2014.

I'd put him ahead of Samsonov who went for a 1st round pick.

Yup. I'm under no illusion that he's suddenly going to become some offensive dynamo, but it will be great if he can develop some offense to go with the shutdown game.

The amazing thing is you look at his season numbers... and then realize he's been getting BETTER as the year has rolled along.

At this point, the only question is whether he'll rank 1, 2 or 3 in our next poll. Either way, the moment Vesey and Buch graduate, he shoots to number one.

He's probably NHL ready now or soon. The gap between the KHL and the NHL is not so big tjat a guy who dominates there can't be a competent backup in the NHL. He's only 20 years old and presumably still in his rime development years, so he should make a lot of progress very quickly. Keeping him in Russia for 2 seasons after this one is overkill. I want him to come here and get some training by Benny.

Maybe give him one more season in the KHL, but in a perfect world he'd come over next year. I hoe he has an NHL escape clause. Shesterkin can get 20 starts and be trained by the best goalie coach in the world. Then he can slowly increase his starts the following 3 seasons and take over starting duties when Hank's contract ends at the age of 39 (Shesterkin will be 25).

At that point, Hank can be a backup and a mentor, just not sure we want him to play 60 games and then start in the playoffs at the age of 40.

He just signed a two year extension so that happened. We wait two more years at least.

It's fine he's a Russian he's not going to come over to play in the A let him develop their and come over at 23 or so to split games with hank if he's still here at that point.

As I pointed out many times, good players put up points in lower leagues. Hell, Tanner Glass put up about a point per game his last 2 college seasons. You can do it due to speed, size, vision, smarts and not just playmaking and shooting. Even a defensive specialist should be capable of putting up points in the Juniors.

What A? As someone who watched hundreds of AHL games over the years and a couple dozen KHL games over the last 2 seasons, I assure you the KHL is a higher level of hockey than the KHL. There's a reason Chris Bourque is a top shelf AHL player, but couldn't hack it in his 2 tries at the KHL.

With its quality improving every year, the KHL is now probably closer to the NHL than to the AHL. Shesterkin's team has Kovalchuk, Datsyuk, Voynov, Shipachev (who'd be a top-6 NHLer if he came over), Barabanov (easily NHL level), and several others who would be NHLers at least on non-playoff teams. SKA and CSKA would lose to any AHL team only if they got lazy. Midrange KHL squads would still kick the crap out of any AHL team in a playoff series. The garbage KHL teams are about equal to the top AHL teams.

If Shesterkin can run shutout after shutout in the KHL this year, then next year (when presumably he'll be even better), I'm supposed to believe he'll be riding the bus to Bingo and Worcester?

The only way Tsar Igor ever sees the AHL is if he decides to pay for AHLlive.

Did u read my post or just see the letter A and snap?

I said he's not coming here to play in the A let him stay and develop in Russia a few more years. No reason to bring him over anytime soon. He's also under contract for 2 more years.

Yes, it's very clear what you wrote: that were he to come over, there's a chance he'd be in the AHL. He won't be. He'll be Hank's backup right away.

Many KHL contracts include escape clauses. Also, there's no KHL-NHL transfer agreement, so I'm not sure he can't just leave SKA for the Rangers if he wants to.

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to argue something I'm agreeing with you on but you seem to be positive I am not lol.

My exact words...."he's not going to come over to play in the A let him stay and develop in Russia"

You flipped out at that

Then my next words....."I said he's not coming over here to play in the A let him stay in develop in Russia a few more years"

Again you flip and say that I think there's a chance if he came over it would be to play in the A???

Think might be time to step away from the keyboard a bit brother. Take a breathe. Not sure what you would like me to argue lol.

Because any reasonable reading of the way you worded it is that he's afraid to come here the next 2 seasons because he may be in the AHL. That's the reason he'll stay in the K because he thinks there's a good chance he'll go to the A. My point was that there's no reason to be afraid of the A because he'll never play there other than maybe to rehab an injury for a week.

you are right, what he said was 100% clear. it was the complete opposite of what you arguing but it was perfectly clear to me.

He'll be fine developing another couple of years in Russia. It might not be the most super ideal situation (I'd probably want to see him play another year as the full time starter and then come over to take over the backup job) but developing another couple of years in the 2nd best league in the world isn't going to kill his development. He's not going to be challenging Lundqvist for the starting job in in the next 2 years or so anyways

e: I mean, this is his first real season in the KHL and he's not really the starter yet either, let's give him some time. If he absolutely dominates this year and next then maybe worry about whether he could come over earlier. In the meantime, he might still have plenty of ups and downs to figure out.

I think it's simply the lack of punctuation throwing him off. It's pretty clear to me too, but you probably want to drop a period, or even a semi-colon between "in the A" and "let him develop". :)

Who knew a period missing translates to straight up fear of having to play in the AHL lol
