When there is a Friday night game followed by a Saturday afternoon game there is often not enough time to do a Friday night recap. So I waited until all the results were in to do one massive weekend report.
The story in this series was the lack of goaltending for the Bisons. After being named stars in all four games the past two weekends, neither goaltender distinguished himself at home.
Friday night's game was a real shoot-out. The Bisons outshot the H0rny Ones 40-36 but when a save was needed they never got it. While there were not that many penalties, the Lethbridge PP was effective, going 2 for 3 and scoring within seconds of the expiry of the other.
In the 1st period, the Bisons were trailing 3-1, despite giving up just 10 shots on goal. The 3rd goal for the Horns was scored by #13 Mitchell Maxwell. He skated around the whole team and put it past Justin Paulic in the Bison goal.
The 2nd period was one of the most entertaining periods I have seen. The Bisons outscored the Horns 3-2 though being outshot 19-13. A pair of 3rd period goals 24 seconds apart seemed to put it away for Lethbridge. However, the Bisons put on a great deal of late pressure. With an empty net and about a minute left, a potential 7-6 goal was barely deflected off the knob of Damien Ketlo's stick and the crossbar. I don't recall the last time the Bisons scored 5 goals and lost.
Saturday afternoon was a similar game, with fewer dramatic moments. Byron Spriggs started for Manitoba and Dylan Tait for Lethbridge. The Bisons outshot the Horns 33-30. However, after the Horns scored 4 goals on 12 shots in the 1st period the chances of a comeback were slim and none.
As for overall impressions, the Horns are definitely an improved team. The league has now played 6 weekends and they have been tough on everyone they have played. They sit 5th at 6-5-1 and have only Regina to play to finish the 1st half. The Bisons are one point back of them at 5-5-2.
The Bisons host the Saskies next weekend, on Friday at 7:00 and Saturday at a very awkward 4:00.

Ugh. The Banjo-Cats were dominated on home ice in a shocking manner. Not to put down the Bluegars, but nobody should be dominated this extensively.
Friday's game started out OK. It was 2-2 early in the 2nd. Somehow Regina gave up 7 unanswered goals, while being outshot 42-16 on the night.
Saturday was better but still not close. MRU built a 3-0 lead over two periods. It seems funny that there would be 6 goals in the 3rd, but such is possible on a funny weekend I guess.
Both teams used just one goaltender. Mitch Kilgore took both losses for Regina and Colin Cooper claimed two wins for MRU. Dawson McAuley did not suit up for Regina on either night.

In this battle for 1st place, the Saskies easily took control with a sound win on Friday night. They built period leads of 1-0 and 3-0 while holding UBC to just 11 shots. In the end, the shots were 25-20 in favour of Sask. Jordon Cooke got the win and Eric Williams took the loss.
The Saturday rematch was strange. UBC came out guns-a-blazin', taking a 3-0 1st period lead whilst outshooting the Banjo-Mutts 17-9. The Mutts were far from finished, however. In the 2nd period they outshot UBC 19-3 and scored twice. The 3rd period saw the Huskies tie the game while outshooting UBC 10-2. But UBC scored on their 2nd shot of the period to escape with a 4-3 win. Jordon Cooke again started for Sask while UBC conrinued to rotate, going with Matt Hewitt.

This was a split series and game 1 was in the Town of Bedrock. The Dinos' playoff hopes could become a page right out of history. The stats were not as one-sided as the scoreline. However, with period leads of 1-0 and 3-0, the Evil Monkeys were never in trouble throughout the game.
The scene switched to Edmontown for the Saturday night rematch. The teams stuck with Luke Siemens in goal for Alberta and Steven Stanford for Bedrock U. It was 0-0 after regulation, and that says it all. The shots were 33-26 in favour of the Monkeys. The results leave Calgary out of the playoffs if the season ended today.
