Probably closer to what it's going to be. I have to imagine Theodore gets a spot as well. I would hate to be selecting this team.
Tooting my own horn here but that first line is dirty. I can see Ritchie keeping up with Mcdavid and Virtanen. I also see him throwing some big hits allowing Virtanen and Mcdavid more space in front of the net.

Honestly, i hope so. He can be such a stabilizing presence on the back end.
The sort of guy you can pair up with a more "adventurous" partner and say, "hey buddy, have at it! i've got your back!"
I think that can be an underrated quality in a tournament like this. A guy where you know who is doing what, where the roles are eminently clear. Yet Heatherington is also a guy who is very capable of making a nice breakout pass, lugging the puck out if he has to, or getting a big shot through in his own right. To me, he's the epitome of a "low maintenance" sort of "no fuss" defenceman that can be really valuable in this sort of tournament, when you already have a team piled high with dynamic blueliners who like to run free.
Particularly when it comes to the PK. There's all sorts of arguments for taking a PK specialist up front (ie. Gauthier)...when imo, the real dirty work on the PK tends to come from the defencemen. And i think Heatherington could be a real ace in that role. Canada is going to take a lot of stupid overly rambunctious penalties...it happens every year. That's just how we play the game, and it doesn't always jive with International Officiating.
But realistically...Hockey Canada is hard to predict. They make a lot of strange decisions, and Heatherington is probably the least dynamic of the many LH defencemen in consideration for this team. So if they go with more of a "best players" approach, he's likely outside looking in.
Ritchie does not deserve to be anywhere near the top line of this team. Ya he'll throw a couple big hits, and a some penalties as well.

This is the only thing I'm worried about. The refs already have his number in the CHL, even when he throws a clean check he gets called so its going to be tough but he's got to pick his spots. I have a feeling they've already heard about him and will be watching him like a hawk.

Team Canada camp battles
What are some key camp battles you will be looking at for Team Canada going into the World Juniors?
One i'm looking at is - Nick Baptiste vs Jake Virtanen the only 2 natural RWs invited to camp they play similar styles, both will probably be on the team but who will win the top RW position playing alongside Connor McDavid

Ypu know what was even more predictable? After 3 posts putting him on the team just in a battle for a top line spot Sabres fans come in here in troves to tell us how under appreciated he is.
There's nothing worse than homeritits at wjc time.
He's basically a lock for the team IMO. I think he has the 4th line RW spot if Canada gets atleast one player loaned, he might get into the top 9 if no one is loaned.

And let go of the "homer" excuse. I'm canadian. People are sleeping on Baptiste. He's a quality player and is not getting the respect he deserves. Quit putting it down to "homeritis" and then proceed to ignore the homer posts of your fellow canuck fans about Virtanen. It's a sorry excuse and it's really annoying.
He should be in the top 9. His skillset is perfect. The right side is rather week. If Lazar comes he could be moved down, my roster goes like this:

I like Baptiste as a energy guy. Speedy, quick and hard on the forecheck, on the offensive side he can shoot and create chances with his attacking but I don't really see him in the top 6 just because he isn't much of a finesse guy. I like Domi in the top 6 because he's alot more creative with the puck and just as fast and physical.
On the 3rd line with Ritchie I think they can be really aggressive and hard-nosed. Then you got Petan who is a wizard with the puck.
Two assists in one game and you're telling me he doesn't pass? Why doesn't Ho-Sang make this team? Because he's a one dimensional player? Three points in one game. and that was just his first game with the team. A goal and two assists on a team with players he doesn't know and has practiced with once. If his "one dimension" is speed and scoring goals then I'm ok with that. Who doesn't want a player that scores in a short tournament. Are you kidding me?

Well, the guy scored 90 points on a meh sudbury team. The offense is there. His speed, size, and responsibility combined with his shot make him a perfect top 9 fit.
