Anyone else hear that the Islanders are really close to acquiring Sherbrooke second overall?

That's not entirely crazy. Islanders have more quality picks than they can realistically fit into their roster, so upgrading and trying for a home run seems logical. Sherebrooke has so many holes adding quantity makes a ton of sense.

Makes sense to me, it will be interesting what moves they make, I have heard rumblings of some blockbuster type moves to get the 2nd overall but nothing confirmed.

I'm a new fan of the Q since i'm being posted to Halifax. i was just wondering how the draft worked on the east coast. Do kids get drafted out of midget like in the OHL or do they get drafted out of Bantam like in the dub?

They get drafted out of midget.

This is true - with next years change of all 14 rounds being possible to draft 15-yo tho, its becoming more important to watch the Bantam AAA level.

Sounds like the Sea Dogs are taking Luke Green first overall. I'd imagine the Phoenix are taking Laberge with the second pick.

Green seems very mobile and physically bigger than Girard who is also very good. Green is from Nova Scotia so therefore more attractive for St-John. I think too that Sherbrooke will go with Laberge, they have enough depth with Roy, Neel, Bahl on Defense. Shawinigan should take Girard, then after that, tough to guess, I would be very surprised if no trade happen in the top 10 picks. It will be interesting to see where goalie Fitzpatrick will go, Gatineau, Cape Breton, Bathurst?
Cape Breton, trading goalie Bureau, opens a nice spot for the rookie from Nova Scotia.

15 year olds = First year Midget players

why would that change how often people should watch bantam AAA?

Hopefully Fitzpatrick doesn't go to Bathurst... Bathurst has Brennan (no trade clause) and just traded for Antoine Landry (from Acadie area) so no room for Fitzpatrick anymore. I'd be hugely disappointed if they draft him and stick him in midget next year.

It should be interesting how the draft shapes up, i'm in the process of making a mock draft and compared to last year it's very difficult. You could see a lot of surprises, where will Fitzpatrick go ? personally i'm not in favor of taking goalie high in NHL or Junior draft but he' clearly the best available goaltender and he could be special. Does Gatineau take him at 4th ? What about Cape Breton at 5 ? they have a nice history with goaltenders or do they take Balmas at 5 ? If Balmas doesn't get picked there could he slide ? How many 1st picks will get traded ? Christmas is approaching for us scouts and draft fans.

As far as the top 3 pick goes, right now it sounds like Luke Green, Pascal Laberge & Sam Girard but like i said earlier a trade could make things interesting. QMJHL draft is rarely boring. Trade period opens the friday before the draft and then again on draft day.

As of now this is the draft order http://www.lhjmq.qc.ca/uploads/assets/QMJHL_FR_SITE/saison_2013-2014/rondeselection2014.pdf

9 days t'ill the draft. :yo:

I wonder of someone takes a flyer on Campoli.

Quebec would have made sense with the allure of the Memorial Cup, but with no picks in the 2nd or 3rd round it's unlikely they would use their pick in the 1st to take him. Shawinigan have 3 picks in the 2nd and 3 more in the 3rd so they may take a shot.

I've been going through that exact same thought process lately with Fitzpatrick and all the other unknowns in this years draft.

I can't wait until it's over lol

Similar situation to Mike Matheson years ago.

Québec doesn't actually have a 1st, it's going back to Drummondville for Nikolas Brouillard. In a similar way, Québec does have a 3rd incoming from Rimouski, it was simply on hold because of some technicalities.

Does the Q hold some sort of combine? or is that done by teams on an individual basis if they want to?

I believe there is, there's some type of tournament for Q futures... I remember that because one of the main reasons I thought Booth would show up in Québec was that he took part in said tournament/exhibit/combine.
