Hall- Hopkins - Eberle

Weird how we haven't seem them together much so far but we know this is going to end up happening. Yakupov has to start learning how to play hockey properly before this line can be changed up IMO.

Pouliot-LD-Purcell

If Leon is staying in the NHL this year I don't think I'm alone when I say I want him to be playing with responsible (Pouliot has good possession stats) and experienced players. Sure. Nobody on this line is going to score 60 points... but nobody on this line should be -20, either. I like that there's also a lot of size on this line so that Leon doesn't get forced into doing too much heavy lifting early into his career.

Perron-Yakimov-Yakupov

First thing is to remind Perron to stop rushing down the ice so often. After that this line should be OK. Yakimov doesn't get caught out of position too often and Yakupov has a chance to play with some guys with good offensive upside.

I truly bee live that Yakupov will be traded this year if he doesn't make things work. And I'm flat out not really into what Arcobello and Lander have been doing thus far, so I'm happy to go with this combo.

Seriously, who is going to claim Acrobello or Lander off of waivers? The Flames? They're welcome to do it.

Hendricks-Gordon-Pitlick

Great shutdown line. If Pitlick stays healthy this line will be very beastly for us.

Extra forward - Gazdic. Seriously... he dominated last year. Don't know how you could keep him off of the team. For a fighter he's not the worst player out there either.

Since Nikitin is out for 2 weeks I'm thinking....

Klefbom-Fayne

Just tell Klefbom to relax and play simple hockey and it should be OK.

Marincin-Petry - They'll play more shutdown minutes while Nikitin is out. When he comes back they'll get a more balanced mix of minutes.

Ference - Schultz - Lots and lots of offensive zone starts.

Extra d-man - Aulie

Sorry Nurse. You only look so awesome because you're such an awesome freak of athleticism at this point. Love your offence and love your hustle. You're going to be a true 1st pairing d-man in the NHL but we can't afford to give you a ton of minutes right now.

Continue to work on your passing and your defensive play against those wimps in the CHL and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of you next year.

On paper I like this the best.

Hall-RNH-Yakupov
Perron-Draisaitl-Eberle
Pouliot-Arco-Purcell
Hendricks-Gordon-Pitlick
Gazdic, Lander

Hall-RNH-Yakupov could be a good line. I'd like to see Perron with Purcell-Arcobello and Eberle with Draisatl and Pouliot. Would create more balance, imho.

Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Pouliot - Draisaitl - Yakupov
Perron - Yakimov - Purcell
Hendricks - Gordon - Joensuu
Pinnizotto, Pitlick

Nurse - Schultz
Marincin - Fayne
Ference - Petry
Aulie/Hunt (at this point don't really care)

Fasth
Scrivens

Gazdic and Nikitin INJ to start.. Aulie settled down in the last 2 games.. that battle with Hunt is a tough one.

Not enough respect for Klefbom here. He was mikes better than many. He stays if it was up to me.

Before preseason, these are the combos we knew that might work

Hall-RNH-Eberle
???-???-???
???-???-???
Hendricks-Gordon-???

???-??? Maybe Nikitin-Fayne
Marincin-Petry
???-???

Now after the final preseason and with question marks about the health of Nikitin, Petry and Ference, it's

Hall-RNH-Eberle
???-???-???
???-???-???
Hendricks-Gordon-Joensuu/Pinnizotto

There's not one 2nd or 3rd line that they stuck with in preseason. I have no idea why they didn't try the Pouliot-Draisaitl-Perron line again after it did so well in training camp and the 1st preseason game. I have no idea who goes where now. Joensuu and Pinnizotto pushed hard for a 4th line spot so there's one thing that we learned in preseason.

???-??? Nikitin-Fayne if Nikitin was healthy but now?
???-??? Marincin-Petry if Petry was healthy but now?
???-??? Ference-Schultz if Ference was healthy but now?

Outside of the top line and the Hendricks-Gordon combo, I have no freaking idea which combo might work. Are Petry and Ference regular season ready at all? Who will Nurse be paired with? Does he have chemistry with anybody? Everybody has been moved around so much so who knows?
This preseason accomplished nothing and if anything, there's probably more question marks than there was going into preseason.

I guess what I would do assuming that Petry and Ference are ready to go.

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Pouliot-Draisaitl-Yakupov
Perron-Yakimov-Purcell
Hendricks-Gordon-Joensuu

Nurse-Fayne
Marincin-Petry
Ference-Schultz

All pairings get fairly equal icetime.

Agreed with 90% of this, except I would:

Swap Pouliot and Purcell
Joensuu instead of Pitlick

Hunt instead of Aulie

...OK, maybe more like 80%. ;)

So are most people hoping Fasth gets the home opener against the Flames?

He was the more impressive goalie in pre-season IMO.

I'm pretty sure Scrivens will start, pre-season's not a great evaluator of goalies.

If he falters, then Fasth will be in fairly quickly IMO.

Not having Nikitin I think will hurt more than we expect unfortunately.

I also felt that both were on even grounds last season. With Fasth putting up some pretty impressive performances as well.
I still think it'll be a toss up.

best course of action would be to give nurse 9 games, and a few games in the Press box to get a birds eye . Then send him back down and have him be a force next year. I think its a battle between Marincin and Klefbom

After hearing some comments I would agree Acton would be a good option on the PK. Especially if Arco falters. Also Klefbom on the squad I can see working out, Marty will hopefully be back very soon, don't want to see him traded like Bob foreshadowed.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Pouliot - Draisaitl - Yakupov
Perron - Gordon - Purcell
Hendricks - Acton - Joensuu
Arco

Ference - Petry
Nurse - Schultz
Klefbom - Fayne
Hunt

Put in Marincin or Nikitin if anyone doesn't work out.

Scrivens/Fasth (50/50 roll with the hot hand)

Gordon - Hendricks
Ference - Fayne

Acton - Hall/RNH
Klefbom - Petry

Forwards seem pretty set. Defense is a fun question though with Nikitin/Nurse/Klef/Marincin/Ference all on that left side. To start we probably see

Klefbom - Schultz
Nurse - Fayne
Ference - Petry

I think by the 9 game mark though

Marincin - Petry
Nikitin - Fayne
Ference - Schultz
