A defenseman should be on the list. To me, that's probably one of the biggest priorities.

I'd rather Clarkson for 4.5-5 then Torres at 3.5

Weiss above $4.5 mil isn't worth it at this point. He's a 56-58 point center coming off an injury riddled season.

No thanks to Torres, specially at $3.5 per, he does us no good. If we want to get a 3rd liner (Torres is 4th liner in my eyes, $3.5 for a 4th liner is sheer stupidity.) might as well pony up half a mil or more and go after Clarkson. Clarkson provides same physicality and provides more offense and toughness than Torres.

If we sign Weiss then we've our top 2 centers are Weiss/Kadri and Grabo is still misslotted on the third line.

I'd like to see Grabo moved to the wing cause he doesn't have a high enough hockey IQ to play as our 3rd line shutdown center.

Or we could trade Grabo to a team that needs a center (we'd need to take on a salary in return for underperforming player).

Buffalo and Dallas both need a center with Stafford (4 x 2 years), Cole (4.5 x 2 years) being players that could come back our way.

Weiss isn't the answer.

He isn't even worth the money and weare upto here in cap with Grabo and now Bozak. Backwards move, ties us up financially, isnt an improvement.

Nonnis needs to look for impact players. Weiss is so-so.

Scuderi should get a serious look to help Phaneuff.Trade for a star center? Clarkson at $3.5 M tops.

really hard to gauge whats going to happen this offseason. Should be interesting no doubt!

I don't think it's hard at all... Stay the course and improve from within. Let Mac walk, Decide on either Bozak or Grabo 1 must go to make room for Colborne.

Liles do the Leafs need him?

The Leafs as far as I'm concern should get even younger next year. There's deserving Marlies that should be Leafs next year and I'm not talking Reilly...

STAY FAR AWAY FROM UFA'S. Anything in adding a player from outside the organization is for a significant player via a trade, other wise in house improvement is the course for this team which I'm completely anticipating.

I'd assume that the signing of Weiss would come at the expense of Bozak or Grabo. Either way that would be an upgrade for near the same amount of money.

Agreed on Scuderi.

Yeah, if we signed Weiss I would be ok with trading Grabo (maybe retain a little salary) for a big shutdown center for the third line or a top 4 right d.

An idea me and a buddy have been talking about work:
-Sign Ray Emery
-Let Bozak walk if he asks more than $4-4.5M
-Trade MacArthur or let him walk
-Resign Franson, Kadri, Gunnarsson, Komarov, Fraser, Colborne, McLaren, Orr and Hamilton
-Sign another big body winger.

offseason we should keep it simple with the FA and try to hit the trade market with our prospects/picks.

Buyout Komi... Capspace = $24 million

Sign Gunnar 4yr/$16m - 4 million
Sign Franson 4yr/$15 mil - 3.75 million
Sign Kadri 2yr/$6 mil - 3 million
Sign Colborne 2yr/$2 million - 1 million
Sign Komarov 3yr/$5 mil - 1.75 million
Sign Fraser 3 yr/$4.5 mil - 1.5 million
Sign Bozak 5 years/$18.75 million - 3.75 mil
Sign Paul Ranger 1yr/$1 mil - $1 mil
Sign Wade Redden 1yr $1.25 mil
Sign Orr 2 years/ $1.5 mil

Trade Grabovski, Percy, 1st for Bobby Ryan
Trade Carter Ashton and Jussi Rynas (sp?) for Antoine Vermette (phoenix keeps .75 mil of cap hit)

Lupul - Bozak - Kessel
JVR - Kadri - Ryan
Frattin - Vermette - Kulemin
Komaorv - McClement - Orr
Colborne

Phaneuf - Ranger
Gunnar - Gardiner
Franson - Fraser
Redden

Reimer
Scrivens

Just adding solid pieces to the puzzle. Nothing crazy. I know Ryan may not be available, but this is the type of package we can give up to get a secondary scoring piece. I'd like to see what Stastny would fetch, if we can package Grabo and a pick/prospect for him I'd do it... Wouldn't need Vermette then, and we could go ahead and sign a guy like Roszival.

Many options, I just hope for some experienced players specializing in faceoffs and late game situations. Our team has everything else.

Can't lie, I like this lineup. I'd switch up the centres, but the additions of Horton/Gordon/Scuderi/Streit/Theodore is the exact type of package we need. I don't know if it'd work under the cap, but it'd be nice if we could get it done.

I wanna see the #2D spot answered. Possibly talk to the new GM in DAL and see if Robidas is available if they're gonna rebuild. He's the right age to add leadership, and plays the right sort of game Dion needs at his side. He won't be here too long to be in the way of Rielly, Percy or others to move in down the road and push him down the depth chart as he gets old. His cost to acquire can't be too much either.

Then sign Clarkson, 4 years, 18-20M. Sign Bozak, 2 years, 9-10M. Sign all RFA's.

Assuming no trades and not signing anyone new but rather only who we currently have, I would hope for a line up something like this.

Lupul - Kadri - Kessel
JVR - Bozak - Kulemin
D'Amigo - Grabo - Frattin
Komarov - McClemant - Orr
Extras: Colborne, McLaren

Gunnar - Phaneuf
Gardiner - Franson
Liles - Blacker
Extra: Fraser

Reimer
Scrivens

Note: Colborne rotates in every now and then to start. He is the first guy in the lineup once someone gets injured. Either he or McClemant can switch to wing if it's a winger who goes down.
[collapse= text]
- Kadri's line will end up playing the oppositions toughest defenders.
- Bozak's line will be matched against the oppositions toughest forwards.
- Grabo's line will get sheltered minutes much like Kadri did to start this past season. I think that group would be able to produce well.

Looking at that lineup, signings I would like to occur (but can we affrord) are:
- a top 9 winger (MacArthur a possibility?) in case D'Amigo can't produce at the next level or Frattin falters. If signed, D'Amigo can be rotated in and out of the 3rd + 4th lines.
- Can't go wrong with another depth faceoff or PK specialist like McClemant. Gordon was mentioned, that would be a great depth signing, I like it.
- Veteran top 4 dman (preferably right handed shot). Injuries are bound to happen and although at the end it looked like both Gardiner + Franson were ready, you never know so the depth doesn't hurt.
- Veteran back up goalie. Numerous options are available for this and honestly I would be shocked if it didn't happen. No discredit to Scrivens, I think he is a good backup, just want a vet still.

Projected signings and cap (includes Komi buyout) as follows (I tried to go what I feel is on the high end for each and I think we can expect the same or lower for everyone).
- Kadri 4m
- Bozak 5m
- Komarov 1.5m
- Orr 1.5m
- McLaren 1m
- Gunnar 3m
- Franson 3m
- Fraser 1.5m

Forwards: 39.725m
Defense: 19.862m
Goalies: 2.413m
Past Buyouts: 2m

Total: 64m

That leaves next to 0 cap space for additional signings. My projected signings I believe to be high, I think we can expect a maximum of 4m less in signings from that which leaves room to sign 1 quality defensemen or forward. Additional cap space can be found by a Grabo/Liles buyout or not signing Bozak, once against freeing up space for 1 quality defensemen or forward.

Also have to keep in mind the following players (UFAs) are currently without a contract after the upcoming season:
- Kessel
- Phaneuf
- Kulemin
- McClemant
- Scrivens

And the following RFAs:
- Frattin
- Gardiner
- Reimer

We may be best served by not doing ANY major/long signings this offseason to ensure we can resign everyone the following year.

Another year better implementing Carlyle's new system with a proper camp may let us do even better this next season. Especially if Lupul + Reimer don't miss significant time. No big additions is NOT the end of the world.
