was coming to post that ... it's a 22 man roster apparently

Lame. Victim of the waivers.

yeah but he could have stayed on 2-3 more weeks due to Stalberg's injury, so that doesn't make sense unless Poile has other plans.

Im guessing they would rather have Beck playing in Milwaukee than sitting here. probably means they will play Spaling and scratch Clune or play Clune and bump Nystrom up a line

but it also must mean Horns and FF are both ready to go

I only see two guys who might be able to score 20 for this team.

74-75 points in the standings, tops.

leave the negative mojo to the professionals, cheesehead...

I actually had Leggy, but Horny was close.

lemme get this straight, you think Legwand, who has had over 20 goals exactly once and 20 goals exactly once in a 13 year career, will get 20, but Horns, who has never scored less than 21 in a full season, won't??

Again, Beck should be in the line-up over Spaling, especially with Stalberg out. Makes no sense.

According to Bob Mackenzie, Forsberg will be on a line with Fisher-Nystrom and Jones will play with Klein.

At first I was a little upset about Forsbergs spot, but thinking more about I like it. He will play with two guys who will go to the corners and make space. He also has two guys who will help out defensively if anything happens. Finally, as much as we complain about people not sticking up for the youngsters if something happens, I can easily see Nystrom in several fights for a hit on Forsberg.

I think we all assumed Jones was going to be with Klein, Mackenzie just confirmed it.

Looking at the Preds website we have 15 forwards listed. Beck is there. Stalberg is on IR. I'm not sure where people are seeing that Beck has been cut or sent down. We're carrying 14 healthy forwards which means 2 guys sit on opening night plus a defenseman sitting which is pretty much Trotz's MO as far as roster utilization goes. Without knowing the extent of Forsberg and Hornqvist's injuries, if they are unable to go, we have 12 forwards ready to go for opening night.

So our best guess for lines now?

Bourque-Legwand-Smith
Hornqvist-Cullen-Wilson
Forsberg-Fisher-Nystrom
Clune-Gaustad-Hendricks

Weber-Josi
Jones-Klein
Bartley-Ekholm

Ellis/Spaling sit?

Beck being cut has come from the media site. The media site lists the team roster without Beck.

I would have Ellis in over Ekholm and possibly switch Smith and Hornqvist but those are the only changes I believe could happen.

I'm a fan of rolling these lines

Bourque-Legwand-Forsberg
Wilson-Cullen-Smith
Nystrom-Fisher-Spaling
Clune-Gaustad-Hendricks

Weber-Klein
Josi-Jones
Bartley-Ellis

Clearly this is a stop gap roster for a couple of years. I think we will be harder to play against but have a precious few wins with this roster. Cullen, Nystrom, Spaling, Hendricks, all these guys are just band-aids until Watson, Beck, Sissons, Leipsic, Aberg are ready for prime time. Everyone we added with the exception of Stalberg are stopgaps. It really becomes a question of do you want to be competitive night in or night out, or do you wanna suck golf balls through garden hoses for five years and draft franchise players. That's a really tough question.

Honestly, from what I saw of Hendricks at camp and during preseason games, the guy is a waste of space. Spaling is completely redundant. Nystrom and Goose are horrifically overpaid.

Cullen, however, is a stud. Glad we have him, though I am still a bit wary of his contract.

Ellis/Spaling sit?

This makes me edgy. Ekholm was one of our worst defensemen during the preseason. Even though I heavily drink the Ellis haterade, I think I would rather have him in there.

Question really is who plays point on power play. You got Weber and Josi (obviously) but then it becomes a fist fight between Ellis and Jones for the right handed shot and Cullen obviously taking the left handed slot.

I guess you have Hornqvist missing time then

Really, I would question your analysis period.

Hey, I was just using the "established number" stuff out of Bill James' playbook. (3-2-1 for last three years, adjusting last year for the partial season; then adjusting the total based on where the player was for those three years - NHL players getting straight weighted average, other players less as they weren't playing in the NHL - down to 1/8.3333 for Jonesy).

If I can figure out how to do tables on here, I'll post my projections.

Near where sand and waves meet.
Phil Housley exists behind our bench to help Ryan Ellis develop into a NHL caliber PP QB. Yes, he's small and will see protected even strength minutes but this is his chance to grow into the role he should fill well at this level. Plus, I'm interested to see how the Human Rocket Ship does at ES with some of the speed we have up front. The three young defenders will rotate through the 5/6/7 roster slots until somebody makes the case to sit or play ahead of the others.

When was the last season where only one player missed fewer than five games for the Preds? I stopped looking when it hadn't happened in the past five seasons.

Huh? 2011/12 we had 5 or 6 guys who played more than 77 games.

The year before we had 7 or 8 who did the same.

Not really sure what you're saying.

Exactly. Now look at Joe's projection that has three player missing fewer than five games. His entire doom and gloom is based on nobody playing more than 80 games with key roster players missing at least 20 games with no callup of Beck, Moser, Cehlin or anyone else.

Oh Joseph, Joseph, Joseph. There are three type of lies; lies, damn lies, and statistics. SO let me lie right back to you.

If you look at last years scoring it was gawd awful. But with the additions in the off-season. the Preds have made up a LOT of scoring and the difference between the top forwards in the central last year is this:

STL: 115
CHI: 110
COL: 102
MIN: 99
WIN: 95
NSH: 95
DAL: 84

Now note, there is a lot of rookies who are bringing 0 goals. but still the difference between NSH's forwards and STL's is 10 goals. Projected over 82 games that's 17 goals. My question is this....

Can Nashville's defense make up 17 goals vs. the other teams in the Central? Hell yes. Weber-Josi, Jones-Klein, Ekholm/Bartley-Ellis.

Hell, if Housley does his job, Ellis could make up half of that by himself.
