I think the biggest issue with Kadri was people being impatient.

In some people's eyes he was a star, in others he'd never make the NHL, when the reality is somewhere in the middle of those two extremes.

...and Holland just keeps getting better and better.
Why does Anaheim keep taking calls from Toronto?

I am starting to see Biggs doing some real good stuff. We need those type of players in the top 6. Guys who can score 20 goals, drop the gloves and control the boards.

Really believe Ashton has a good shot as a third liner or dare I say... top six potential. I just think he needs another chance.

He was highly touted when Tampa drafted him and it was obvious that, like many power forwards, he would need additional seasoning to hone his game at the pro level. That being said, he was really underwhelming last year. Glad he's stepping up this year, I really like his game.

With Clarkson's 3 goals one might argue Biggs could almost replace him today.

A bigger Clarkson or Kulemin would be nice as none of them seem to score. I hope one of Biggs or Ashton develops into that. Also, Holzer is a better option than either Ranger or Fraser imo, a third pairing guy.

If the Marlies games got any sort of coverage in this city on the Radio, or some kind of mention in the TV media more often than NEVER, i feel that people would care more.

I try to watch most of the games, but personally got caught up in boxing day and missed this one.

The announced attendance was over 16,000, so probably a decent number of people were at the game (including me, thanks to the Groupon).

The results were much like a Leafs game, except instead of grabbing an early lead and sitting on it for 20-30 minutes, the Marlies gave up a lot of shots (not great ones, for the most part, but still) and failed to get much possession or offense going. Hamilton scored first on an awful attempt at puckhandling by MacIntyre. The Marlies tied it late on a nice keep-in at the point on the PP by Percy, who fed it to Brennan for a sweet point shot - top corner and in thanks to a screen by the forward, who may have been Ashton but I'm not sure about that. Then in OT, two Marlies forward inexplicably piled on to one Bulldog along the boards in their own zone, and left the defensemen to try to cover what was basically an extended 3-on-2. The Bulldogs ended up scoring the OT winner on a rebound on that same play.

I feel like the Marlies have way too many big and/or grindy forwards and hardly any skill. Brad Staubitz is totally useless and just takes stupid penalties, and why have him in the lineup when there's already Broll, Crescenzi, Ross, and Biggs trying to develop as power forward/agitator types? Ashton too, but at least he has AHL-level skills. Abbott has moves for sure, and Ashton carried the puck well, but other than that, they just couldn't get good scoring chances. Most of the time, the Bulldogs had four guys down low (PK or 5-on-5), leaving no openings at the point or in the slot. The Marlies responded by setting up bad-angle one-timers which had no hope of going in. They're really missing an AHL superstar like Aucoin or Zigomanis to get something resembling two scoring lines going.

ashton is a freaking beast now.

I have been saying for some time now, if you put him on 3rd line, he will do really well. but IDK if it's the right time to trade Kuli

He's a good AHL player, but in the NHL he's weak on the puck and makes a lot of poor decisions. He has a lot of work to do if he wants to become a full-time NHLer.

Ashton is finally showing the scoring touch he had when he first started his AHL career in Norfolk. I just hope he's actually developed as a player, and isn't another (and I hate to say this because I loved the guy..) Matt Frattin who lights it up in the A but can't figure out his game in the NHL.

Ashton has always impressed at the AHL level. His offensive abilities in the AHL have not translated at all at the NHL level.

ashton actually can play a cycle game. heck of a shot and great speed. and man is this kid annoying to the other team.

I am not a big fan of frattin, couldn't believe how overrated he became here.

I liked him, but not sure why he got big fan fare here.

playing with goons in NHL doesn't help. and this is the first time in a while he is starting to score in AHL.

I think we should look to trade Ashton while his value is high. He was injured the first season we got him, and he hasn't been the same since. I think we'd get more value out of him by trading him than keeping him, especially since we have other PWF type players.
