Does Paararji sound that good? Any real articles on him? Any Swede that cracks the North American news that early has to be a dominant player...what's his game? How good is he?

Pääjärvi.

He played in the TV-pucken tournament this fall. This is a tournament for Sweden's districts and this year the players were born 1989.

He was the best player on the second best team even though he is two years younger than the others.

He looks like a very good player but I'm not completely sold on him because of his size. He is a big kid which helps him compete against older players while his age group mostly would struggle because they are too weak. Let's not forget that these players are growing and not always at the same pace.

Jayce Hawrlyk (300 goals last season as a 8 year old, 250 the season the year before as a 7 year old, this season he has 61 goals in 17 games)

Hopefully that kid isn't thinking about quitting hockey for baseball.

1. Mikael Backlund F (something really, really special)

If Backlund isn´t at a top 10-pick 2009, remind me stop watching hockey, because then all logic has seized to exist. Mikael Backlund is more talented than Bäckström, and is the most talented swedish player since the Sedin twins and Zetterberg.

John Tavares is actually 2008

('87 - 2005, '88 - 2006, '89 - 2007, '90 - 2008) I don't know whats with the confusion i've seen half say 08 half say 09 it's actually 08 because he was born in 1990

anyways the ISS announced their Perliminary Rankings for the 2007 Draft here's their Top 5...

#1 - Angelo Esposito - Center - Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)
#2 - Nick Petrecki - Defence - Omaha Lancers (USHL)
#3 - Mark Katic - Defence - Sarnia Sting (OHL)
#4 - Colton Gillies - Center - Saskatoon Blades (WHL)
#5 - Sam Gagner - Right Wing - Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)

The cutoff in terms of birthdates for the draft is September 15. For example, for the 2006 draft all players have to be born on or before September 15, 1988.

Tavares is born Sep. 20, 1990 which means he falls right after the cutoff for the 2008 draft, making him eligible for the first time in 2009.

Prepare for a life without hockey. I would be amazed if Backlund goes undrafted in two consecutive drafts. ;)

I apologize for the misspelling--I tried my damndest. haha

You make a very good point in your last paragraph about young players.

Thanks for the info.

Well Daniel Sedin scored 21 goals and 42 pts in his draft year, im not sure that Bäckström is better than Sedin.

the difference is that the sedins development curve stopped totally for a good while. The sedins are nothing special today.

The Sedins are the best 2nd liners in the league, and if not for our first line...they would be getting 20 minutes a game and over a point per game. They've really develloped.

sure about that?
I think they changed it with the new CBA
