18yo German junior player passes away after crash into the boards

18-year old defenseman Niclas Kaus of Löwen Frankfurt passed away yesterday, five days after sustaining severe head injuries after he crashed awkwardly into the boards after a battle with an opposing player.

My condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew him.

It happened in our 3rd division U20 league. There is rarely any video availableof such games. And I don't think there were any spectators allowed, though I am not sure about that, so it is unlikely there is anything on social media either. But since I am not on any social media (unless you count youtube) I don't know if there is anything to find there but I doubt it. I am also not sure I would be comfortable to watch/post such a video.

From the reports, it was just a normal battle/check along the boards as they happen dozens of times every game, but the kid fell so awkwardly into the boards that he hurt his head and back really bad.
He was immediately taken to the hospital where he had emergency surgery.
