Can I just say that left-wing is a bit off? Craig Simpson and Esa Tikkanen are each worth twice what a Ryan Smythe is.

Anyway, my line-up is:
C = Gretzky
R = Kurri
L = Krushelnyski
D = Ruotsalainen
D = Steve Smith
G = Roloson

Wasn't Messier also a multiple time year-end all-star team selection as a left-winger in his Oilers days? I could be wrong but I don't think he made the shift to centre until well into the mid to late 1980s. Someone correct me if that's not the case.

Esa Tikkanen ($4) - Wayne Gretzky ($5) - Jari Kurri ($5)

Reijio Ruotsalainen ($1) - Randy Gregg ($1)

Tommy Salo ($2)

he was moved permanently to center during the 83-84 season. if folks want to use Messier & Anderson on the left wing, go for it.

i dunno about that... i thought about making them all worth $2, but it's hard to separate them when you look at their entire careers for the Canucks... Smith was great, then solid, then gone... Brodeur had two solid seasons, an excellent playoff run & then spent the rest of his career as the absolute worst starter in the league, & for me, his post 82 play really overshadows the Cup run, although i realize that is pretty much heresy around these parts, even when mentioning it to people who witnessed him stink up the Coliseum for years, showing up fat to training camp every year...

Cloutier was pretty damn good for the Canucks for a while, & when he imploded, the fans destroyed him further. Brodeur sucked longer & harder than Cloutier did, but fans seem to forget that...

Smith was good, very good even, during his short stay. Then, IIRC, he (apparently) said something inappropriate to Arthur Griffith's wife at a team function and was gone soon after.

As for Brodeur vs. Cloutier... if you account for era, Brodeur at his best was better than Cloutier at his best, and when Cloutier sucked he was one of one of the worst NHL starting goaltenders I have ever seen. Sure Brodeur was fat and bad towards the end, but he was just a crappy goalie on a crappy team... Cloutier was, arguably, the one thing standing between the Canucks and some deep playoff runs, possibly even a chance at the Stanley Cup in 2003.

Anyway, good to see some people here picking Haaarold and Gelinas... two members of my personal Canucks HOF.

Morrow-Nieuwendyk-Guerin: 7
Hatcher-Hatcher: 7
Belfour: 4

This is a solid forward line that can play a good two-way game. The defensive pairing combines the skills of a top defensive defenseman with a good offensive defenseman, and since they're siblings the chemistry there should be perfect. Belfour has a worse regular season record than Turco, but shines brighter in the playoffs, and is the perfect goaltender to complete this team.
