Bjugs is really inconsistent, Pirri has been invisible, Huby looks like a second liner at best, Jokinen only scores empty netters. Even Jags looks out of steam against the really fast teams.

Only Barkov, Tro and Smith get a pass offensively so far. They look the only ones with the skill and speed to play an uptempo game. Hard to win with so many guys underperforming.

edit

Jags gets a pass too offensively although he can't play the speed game

Anyone else notice the change of tone in GG's post-game interviews? Actually assigning blame... saying players aren't willing to pay the price etc. Refreshing.

dressing Thornton and playing bolland 3c the lst 2 periods. After winning 2 great gms, was a rookie coach error by a guy who rolls 4 lines equally.

We've scored 3 goals twice in 10 gms, and u sit Howden who has more goals then Thornton bolland or huberdeau.

Yes that's the coach's fault.

Thornton fought and it was a decent fight...that doesn't excuse him playing over Howden who has done pretty well for himself so far this year.

As for the lineup change, I don't think it made a whole lot of sense. Huberdeau is struggling to score, no doubt, but putting him on the 2nd line isn't going to change that, it's not a lack of trying on his part or chemistry (it's only Barkov's second game back).

That said, the biggest 2 issues facing this team right now, are lack of offensive pressure/winning forechecks and shooting the damn puck. OMG, I lost track of how many times players passed up great opportunities so they could pass for hopefully a better one. You are going to lose that battle more often than not, I don't understand this mentality. I mean when a guy like Pirri passes instead of shooting, that's crazy, shooting is what he does.

These guys have what it takes but they are doing it all wrong. I don't know if it's bad mental prep or bad coaching (and it may seem to be the latter at this point), but it has to change. Also I have no idea how this team has such a good PP, they get some decent pressure at times but in general it's not good enough.

Luongo, if no one else, was once again stellar and deserved a far better fate than that last night. I'll give some kudos to Ekblad as well and Barkov for scoring, but that's about it. This is not good enough.

I don't feel like the team in their victories this year has come anywhere close to the quality of play they had last year.

Even in our victories I have not seen Outplay and dominate possession on both sides of the puck except game 1.

This team does not have the work ethic necessary to compete.

This team is playing like they are uninspired and quit on their coach and what little fans still remain to pay for tickets.

The names on the back of the jerseys change the work ethic and Results are always the same.

well 1/3 of our top-9 consists of huberdeau, bolland, and jussi. none of those guys score goals. throw into it that pirri was supposed to be a goal scorer this year and instead has been invisible outside the tb game as a shootout specialist. thats 4 of our top-9 not scoring any goals. then thornton on the 4th kllls any chance of them scoring. kinda hard when you can only rely on 5 guys + ekblad on the backend to produce.

Thornton actually played well.

Dropping Howden was odd, as I thought he had performed well. But then, I thought the same with Brickley, and he isn't even in the squad anymore.

Bolland at 3C is fine. Trocheck at 2C, with Bjugstad at the wing would make more sense to me. Although Bjugstad has been better at faceoffs than Trocheck.

Last night annoyances

Passing was despicable.
  • Soft
  • Slow
  • Not accurate
  • Too late
  • Too soon
  • Not at the right time, abolishing a prime scoring chance if puck was shot

Overall effort was disgusting. Again.
  • Couldn't win battles
  • Looked slow as a unit
  • Got heavily outshot and out-possessed

Breaking out of the zone was beyond awful. Didn't look like an NHL team at times. Miscommunication galore and it seems most players' instincts were horrible.

11 of the last 15 teams Florida has faced (I'm including San Jose) will make the playoffs this year. Things will get better in early December when the Panthers schedule gets easier.

Record against non-playoff teams- 5-3
Playoff teams- 3-5-3

There's also the with or without Barkov effect.

With: 4-3-1
Without: 4-5-2

With Barkov they picked up 9 out of a possible 16 Pts.

Without Barkov they picked up 10 out of a possible 22 Pts (lest we forget that Jagr also missed 2 games when Barkov was out).

I don't see Barkov being as important to the team as everyone has been claiming. Since coming back from the injury, he's also been pretty weak at faceoffs and forcing a lot of plays.

Yet everyone is ripping on Jagr? :shakehead

I don't really agree with the no Barkov effect either, they could have had prime Gretzky on the western road trip and still wouldn't have won a game (I know they almost beat Anaheim but that game wasn't close)

92 point pace vs 75? That's a big difference.

3-1 with Barkov against non-playoff teams

1-3-1 with Barkov against playoff teams.

No substantial difference.

2-2 against non playoff teams without Barkov
2-2-2 against playoff teams without Barkov

Wait wait wait... So we are saying having our no1 centre out has no effect on the team?

Stats are stats but there has to be some context in this case (like flapanthers11 post for example) as I find it hard to believe losing your best centre is anything but a bad thing. Goes for any team in the nhl.
