The way Yzerman handled the Kuch contract imo will bite the lightning in the arse when his contract is up. Basically he told Kuch you are the least important player on this team, even though he has arguably been the best player the past 2 years.

That's exactly what he did, without that long-term deal Kucherov has no security for his future, he's probably going to be living on the streets in a few years.

Have any offer sheets happened under the current CBA? If so, how many have resulted in a RFA leaving their team? It could happen but the CBA horribly favors teams over the RFA.

Ryan O'Riley had a signed offer sheet from Calgary under this contract. There have been 8 signed under since the Cap was initiated. Dustin Penner is the only player that changes teams going from the Duck to the Oilers. The remaining offers were matched. So it happens The penalty now of pick adjusted by contract total causes pause in most cases.

If a team has for example a 1C or a 1D guy I can see GM's taking a chance. For example Ekblad if he had been in that situation you can bet a team like the Oilers would gladly give up 4 pick to land that 1D. A team that goes years without that guy can draft the best defensman in the draft 4 years in a row and theres no guarantee any of them will develop into that 1D.

You have to think that Yzer made it clear to Kuch that he needed help for three years to get the rest of his core resigned and Kuch can cash in then. If players want to remain on a high performing team with chances at multiple cups they have to be reasonable. Too many teams throw out too much of there cap to tweeners and get into trouble when they need to sign the real producers. If you have 10 guys on a team making more than 5 mil its tough to ice 23 and be competitive for a cup.

Until the league starts making money the GM's are going to have to control what they spend and the players and the union better understand it or there will be another lost year at the end of this contract and then the pain will really be felt by both.

Thanks. No clue what Steve Y said to him but I sure am happy we have him for at least 3 more years . I found this on WIKI that is also interesting.

"Penner is also the only player since 1997 (Chris Gratton) to change teams via an offer sheet. So only two players in almost 20 years."

Obviously Yzerman signed him short term and for cheap because he's a KHL flight risk, pretty cut and clear, if he was Canadian and played with some heart guy would've been secured before Killorn.

Lol so he is a KHL flight risk, even though he could have very easily got a contract done while he was there. And to say he has no heart is just ridiculous. :shakehead

I like that author. LOL.

This is what I've constantly stressed on here...

As far as Callahan’s contract, he provided 24 goals and 54 points in his first full season with the Lightning. A reduced role and injuries limited him to 28 points in 73 games in the second year. I’m not ready to fully judge this contract until we see how he bounces back this season and next. He provides leadership in the locker room, energy on the ice, and solid penalty kill play. He also is cited as a big reason for Anton Stralman and Brian Boyle signing with the Lightning.
